Well this beer really surprised me, I didn't expect the herbal qualities in the smell to begin with.

It poured a very nice color, golden clear with a fairly carbonated head. Had to wait for the head to go down, didn't quite dissapear but leaves a 1/8th inch white head the entire way.

Smell was that between a christmas tree, rosemary, and fresh cut lawn. It was pleasant but a little unexpected for me.

The taste was just as herbal as the smell. The rosemary came through even more, but I tasted a good bit of lemon as well. It's very interesting and unique, I could see this pairing well with some seafood.

The mouthfeel was pleasant, I thought it was just right for the amount of flavor coming through. For other beers it may be too carbonated but it helps smooth out the herbal tones so it's not too strong of a taste.

Overall I would recomend this for a friend to experience. I feel it's something I glad to have tasted but I might not purchase again.

A: poured into an oversize wine glass to a hazy light yellow with a three finger dense and soapy head that is slow to fade and leaves excellent lacing
S: smells of sage, peppery yeast and bready malt with a touch of honey
T: taste is peppery yeast, sage, some grassy qualities, spices, slight sweetness, some fruity esters and dry crackers. swallow is fairly phenolic and bordering on medicinal with more sage, spicy yeast, and a slight residual sweetness
M: this beer sits on the palate on the lighter side but isn't watery. carbonation is somewhat prickly but not overbearing and a slightly drying finish
O: A nice and spicy saison. Very well crafted, lots of nice flavors without anything dominating.

Release #12

Served in a DC Brau can glass. I just finished a "Corruption," so I just used the same glass.

A: Poured out a glistening, apricot orange color, with a whopping 3-4 finger white head. Murky, cloudy, you know the drill.

S: Hmmm... Not a coriander bomb which is a pleasant departure. Actually, this had quite a gingersnap/sage disposition (hence the name, I guess) as well as some quality, orange juice infusion.

T: Exactly like the smell, and with a strong piny backbone imbedded in the spice component. Not too sweet and the fresh-filtered water flair was to die for.

M: Spritzy and bubbly, just the way I like my saisons. No syrup in this puppy.

O: I really dug it. I'm gonna have to remember the whole sage thing for my next saison home-brew.

Batch # 16. Poured into snifter glass.

Appearance: beer presented a hay like color with a slightly opaque appearance. A delicate white head built up quickly with gentle pouring and broke down quickly after setting the glass down.

Smell: notes of Belgian yeast and some herbs, and a little bit of sugar. Can't quite describe the herbs but it has a nice fruity essence. May almost seem cloying but it's not.

Taste: while I find most saisons quite tamed (in a good way), this one is really in your face. Picked up Belgian yeast, sweet bread, and fruity tones. There's also an herbal bitterness at the finish.

Mouthfeel: clean, smooth, carbonation perfect, medium bodied. No notes of alcohol.

Overall: a great buy for the price it sold for (I think a bomber was 6-7 dollars). It's about the only saison I've tried that stood out from other saisons. I don't want to say it was an oddball one (with its sage added) but it certainly was different.
