This beats all 80 of the previous beers I have rated on this site. Almost perfectly balanced hops, yeast and Malts. A real pleasure and sad to know that it is not available year round. I found this bomber at Whole Foods in Seattle and hope I can find some more before Seattle runs out!

quite a pleasant surprise. The Belgium yeast doesn't overpower the fact that this is an ipa. Instead it balances nicely for a truly unique flavor. theres no mistaking the hops finish. This could make a great year round brew. Unfortunately the availability is sparse.

Chill hazed deeply amber colored ale. Going to call this one Orange in color and it fits with with my idea of the color IPA Orange. Small white colored head.

Smells strongly hopped with Northwestern US hops. Scents of grapefruit and onion. Strong coriander scent. Judging just by scent they went balls to the wall with the hops here. Strong tea and citrus aromas.

Starts out very woody and dry. Strong coriander and tea flavors. Very woody and faintly soapy. Spicy with the flavor of cedar wood.

Mouthfeel is woody.

Overall this is OK. Needs more depth.

Poured into a New Belgium goblet. Label says Release #4.

A- Pours a semi-hazy dark amber color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains a bit before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a small patch of surface foam. Non-resilient lacing slides quickly down the glass.

S- Musty, grassy hop aroma that reminds me of the neo-European breweries' takes on IPAs (i.e. Mikkeller, Brewdog).

T- The flavor follows that same rustic sentiment but is smoother and cleaner than other beers I've had like it. The bitterness is mild and the malt really shines through more with its sweetness. That being said, the flavor makes it seem like it should be stronger than just a modest 6.3%.

M- Oily and resinous with medium carbonation and a fullish body.

O- I don't sense the Belgian presence in this but, either way, it's a sweet yet earthy IPA that goes down pretty easily. My first beer from this brewery and I'm somewhat intrigued.

A- Hazy, light orange yellow color. Poured a nice creamy 2 finger head. Nice lacing.
S- Tropical fruit, nice floral, grapefruit, pine, light fresh hop dank, and caramel. The warmer it gets, the more I think I smell banana and clove.
T- Follows the nose pretty closely. Tropical fruit, sweet grapefruit, pine, fresh hop, and nice caramel. Not picking up any Belgian flavors.
M- Medium light body. Semi-oily feel. Light lingering bitterness.
O- I enjoyed this beer. I wish there were more Belgian characteristics, but just as an IPA, it is really good. I would have again.

Yet another very good beer by epic. Great thick foamy head. Tight bubles that last, not the quarter inch type that fade away in 30 seconds. Held to the light, its not haxy, just dark gold in appearance. Aroma is good,, if a little mild. Mouthfeel is outstanding.. carbonation has good balance. The hop selection is interesting. Some pine finishing with a hint of citrus. Not overly bitter, a tad more than i would normally like but no complaints here. I think the slight aftertaste may be from the yeast. Not bad at all just different. The belgian characteristics are mild and most evident in the yeast flavors. Very good and will buy again. This is a beer to savor and enjoy, not one for nonchalant drinking nights. Would make an interesting pairing with a sharp cheese and possibly italian pasta - i can really see this complimenting the flavors of garlic and oregano. Not as good as their spiral jetty (imho) but a fine beer that deserves a good try.

22 oz bottle from the Utah system poured into my beer goblet.

Appearance: Slightly hazy medium golden. Very solid three finger thick head with loads of tiny bubbles. Very appealing.

Smell: Hops! I get green pine and "herby" along with a general hops spiciness. I might be imagining it, but I think I can also pick up a bit of Belgian yeast phenolics.

Taste: The taste follows the nose strongly. A very yummy IPA with strong hops flavors. The hops are not overly bitter, a lot of late and secondary. The website says Chinook, Centennial, and Citra and I can definitely pick out the Citra. I only knock this one down because I cannot pick out the Belgian yeast. If it does not have Belgian yeast, then why is it a Belgian IPA?

Mouthfeel: Solid feeling beer with lots of flavor that easily coat all over the mouth. Medium body with soft carbonation.

Overall: I would not have known this was a BIPA had the label not said so. This has been in the bottle for 100 days or so but it actually has held up quite well. I would have preferred a bit stronger in the Belgian department.
