Don't let the fact that the LCH is a high-end restaurant fool you - the bar area is actually an affordable place to get drinks. I'm reviewing this as a bar, so I'm essentially discounting the tiny dining area upstairs that has a much pricier food menu and is very difficult to get reservations for. I really only go during happy hour (from 4-7 pm Tues-Thurs) when all drafts are 2 dollars off at the bar. They also have a great beer/wine and appetizer special during the happy hour. You can choose between 4 or 5 select beers and just as many wines, to pair with one of 4 or 5 select appetizers for $6.99. I usually get 6 of the Jamaican Jerk Wings, which are just fantastic. The beer selection is really good for this area - with 20 or so taps, all craft breweries. The beer is served in proper glassware, and during happy hour, a pint only runs 2 or 3 bucks, which is just absurdly cheap for such a nice place. The bar area is very, very laid back for a college town. There are lots of tables, so you can legitimately eat dinner or take a date to the bar area without going through the hassle or damage to the wallet that eating and reserving a table upstairs requires. The bar menu is still quite impressive, with tons of different sandwiches, along with a great selection of steaks and seafood. Also, the duck fat french fries are amazing, especially with their house peach ketchup. All in all, it is amazing to have a bar like this in Harrisonburg. Even better, it's a little under the radar because it's a little beyond the main strip of bars in the downtown area - and there's a common misconception that it will cost a fortune to get food and drinks at. I often get 3 beers and an appetizer for less than $20 including tip, so I'll keep coming back.

OK, this place is downright amazing. There are a handful of quality watering-holes in Harrisonburg; in my mind this establishment is tied for First Place (along with Clementine's). The time to go is during the "5 for 6 till 7" (Tues-Thurs from 4:30 to 7:00), which is probably the best food-with-drink deal in town, but the standard Happy Hour drink special is also hard to beat.
The atmosphere in the bar area is stupendous -- cozy without being claustrophobizing, intimate without being imposing. I could spend many an hour on those comfy couches by the fire and never grow weary of the place/
The service is very good, if not stupendous. No real complaints, and the servers usually (but not always) know what they're talking about.
The beer selection is out of this world, especially for the Shenandoah Valley. There's always something good to choose, and lots of local brews to boot.
The food is beyond compare. Close your eyes, blindly point to something on the menu, and be amazed.
