Also known as Imperial Money.

Inspired by our friends at One Mile House in NYC. They asked us if we would brew an Imperial version of their favorite Barrier beer for their anniversary. We obliged, all rejoiced. Behold the hop glory in it's entirety. Share it with a friend or hoard it for yourself. And above all else ... drink it fresh, drink it now.

Look: It pours hazy yellow with an off white head. Head retention is very good.

Smell: It has a sweet aroma with pineapple, some spice, and pepper.

Taste: It is sweet in the flavor that feature tropical fruits, pineapple, citrus, and a bit of spice. There are also very light grapefruit notes in the background.

Feel: It has a moderate, creamy body with a sweet and lightly bitter finish.

Overall, there are various combinations of hop flavors with little in the way of malt.

How have I never reviewed this on here? Sure, I traded for it a while ago as the date on the bottom of the can read 7/24/17 with WHO'S YOUR DADDY? written above it. This beer is nearly a classic, given how many ratings it has on here and after finally giving it a go, I can see why this is ranked where it is on here!

Not a bad pour to this as the liquid was hazy, golden, and muted with plenty of head to top it off. A good amount of soapy lacing soapy, webbed lacing remained on the back half of my pint glass as I sipped this, which was an indicator of how balanced and beautiful this was. Lots of tropical fruit, grass, earthy hops, and sweet nectar in the nose as they all exploded in the taste. Full, sticky, and addicting, this was wonderful on the palate as there was plenty of sweet malt, dank hops, and overripe rind to grab my attention from the get-go and hold on until the end.

No, I didn't have it fresh and didn't have it now but even though I disregarded that, this held up well over time and was so enjoyable until the last sip. The booze was present, but not not strong or overpowering, as the carbonation was just enough to keep this from feeling too heavy or potent. Really impressed with this one as the resin the lingered on my palate and teeth was a reminder of how enjoyable this was. Easily among Barrier's best, I'd love to have a fresher can to see if that would be an improvement over this!

A: Pours a hazy medium to dark golden honey in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising quickly along the edges of the glass and moderate copper + medium golden yellow + burnt orange colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense sudsy foamy off-white head that slowly reduces to a large patch of thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of dank resinous, citrus/grapefruit, citrus/grapefruit pith, tropical/mango, and tropical/papaya hops over the top of bready + caramel + biscuit malts with a light to moderate amount of caramel sweetness.

T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of bready + caramel + biscuit malts with a light to moderate amount of caramel sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of dank resinous, citrus/grapefruit, citrus/grapefruit pith, tropical/mango, and tropical/papaya hops which impart a moderate amount of aggressive bitterness which lingers through the finish.

M: Medium to full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly chewy with a hint of alcohol warming in the finish.

O: This is a big old school DIPA with a moderate amount of sweetness and aggressive bitterness - alcohol is definitely present. Enjoyable but not the easiest drinker, more of sipper.

Canned 2/27/18 and poured into a snifter. A very hazy/somewhat turbid yellow-gold color with a creamy white head. A shot of citrus on the aroma with herbal, resiny notes. Nice dank underpinnings. The taste followed suit - loads of dank resin with citrus popping through. Soft bitterness, especially for the size of the beer. The malt was there but balanced and not too sweet. A bit hot and boozy on the finish but overall excellent.

Very hoppy, fruity taste, not overwhelming. Must be drunk ice cold for best satisfaction. Does not hit you too hard right away, but lingers.

L: Poured from a tallboy can to a tulip glass. Had a bright amber color and a cloudy texture. There was an inch of foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Above average lacing.

S: A very enticing aroma of dank hops, malt, citrus, and some pine as well.

T: Tasted of a hint of sweet malt, a fair shot of pine resin (mostly in the finish), lots of dank hops, an earthy, lots of citrus notes (orange, a little lemon), and tropical fruit (mangoes). This is one of the more focused DIPA flavors I've tasted recently. There's a good balance between the dank, earthy hops and the fruity elements. Quite tasty.

F: A well-carbonated beer with a lively finish. Medium-bodied.

O: An exceedingly well-made DIPA with a lot of character. Definitely worth a look.
