We did, in fact, change the Kapow! recipe. We kept getting feedback from people that with a name like Kapow! they were expecting a bit more hop bitterness, more of a kick or a punch and eventually we agreed that a beer called Kapow! needed to deliver some serious kapow! However, we really liked the flavor profile of the original recipe and didn't want to abandon it all together so here's what happened:
We created a new recipe for Kapow! that is much more IPA forward with a stronger hop bitterness, brewed primarily with Cascade and Galaxy hops. It definitely delivers on the kapow front now. (And yes, it's a bit lighter in color as well. Good eyes!).
As for the original recipe, we left it unchanged but gave it a new name, Delicioulus Extra Pale Ale.
Ultimately it came down to semantics and the preconceptions people had when looking at the name and ordering the beer. At the end of the day they're both great beers and we hope everyone will enjoy them as much as we do. Hopefully we don't confuse too many people off in the process with the name changes!
