As opened the growler and listened for the gas escaping to tell me it was fresh, I poured the growler's orange and dark golden contents into my tall chalice. It bristled with a milky suds and tiny bubbles of carbonation. The aroma of liquor and licorice came our of it immediately as I went for the first taste.

It captured my attention, like many American interpretations of the Belgian styles, with its subtle balance of hops (I was informed it was dry-hopped with three different hops), elements of dark fruits, and a yeasty banana inflection.

With the growler disappearing quickly, I quietly wished I had bought a kegerator for a barrel of this new brewery's good work.

My growler came from Bellport Beer, where Evan Klein, formerly of Sixpoint Brewing Co., debuted his new line of beers about a week ago.

32 ounce growler filled at Decicco's in Ardsley, NY

Pours hazed darker orange amber, moderate off white head, quickly goes to a fine film and thicker collar. leaves moderate strands of fine lacing.

Yeasty, phenolic nose, with ripe citrus and a hint of bubble gum.

Fresh, fruity and flavorful with better then average complexity exhibited. Notes of lime, Belgian yeast, grapefruit, apricot all picked up. Drying and again fresh tasting hops develop in the finish. Nice brew. Carbonation could be stepped up just a notch IMHO. Worth a try.

A: The beer is hazy yellowish orange in color and poured with a finger high white head that slowly died down and left some lacing on the surface.
S: There are light to moderate aromas of spices and yeast in the nose.
T: Like the smell, there are light flavors of spices and notes of fruits along with some accompanying bitterness from the hops.
M: It feels medium-bodied and very dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation. There is a some dryness in the finish.
O: The beer isn’t that difficult to drink because the alcohol is well hidden from the taste.

In draft at Left Coast Kitchen, Merrick, NY.

Poured a slightly hazy dark straw hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured an herbal hop and a mild yeast ester.

The taste consisted of a full herbal hop spice with a subtly sweet malt and a touch of cleansing lemon zest.

The mouthfeel was toward the neater side of the style.

Overall a very well made and tasty hop forward Belgian pale ale.

A - Pours an opaque amber/red grapefruit color with minimal head and very gentle carbonation.

S - Sweet Belgian yeast, wheaty, cloves, mild bananas, and mild spices. Overall, the aroma is quite mild which is the weakest aspect of this good beer.

T - Everything listed above with the peculiar addition of pine hop character. It's a totally weird combination but works extremely well. A little bit bready and lightly floral with pine needles. Aftertaste leaves a mild peppery coating with minimal citrus and is quite clean.

M - medium to light/medium bodied, mild on the tongue, and a very clean finish with a mild floral and pine aftertaste.

D - Very nicely brewed. Not overly complex, but just plain ENJOYABLE!

From 06/04/11 notes. Growler shared by nimbleprop; thanks Mac. Poured into a tulip.

a - Pours a hazy orange-golden color with an inch of white head and light carbonation evident.

s - Smells of citrus, yeast, cloves/spices, light fruit and bananas, and light mint. Pretty nice, definitely some Belgian style notes in there mixing with the citrus.

t - Taste is more of the same; oranges, citrus, spices, cloves, and fruity malts. More citrus and oranges in the taste, pretty nice.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation.

o - Overall a pretty nice beer. I thought there was a lot more citrus, especially oranges, than most Belgian style pale ales, but I liked it none the less. Would try it again.

A - a cloudy orange. No head but I'll blame the pub glass.

S - plenty of orange with a bit of cloves. Very little Belgium yeast aroma.

T - more of the aroma. Orange, some cloves and just a bit of the normal Belgium taste.

M - moderate mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Again I blame the pub glass for no head despite tasting moderate carbonation.

O - a very mild Belgium. A good 'first' Belgium for those that haven't tried one.
