Bottle at Combined Tasting.

A: Pours black with a slightly tan head.

S: Roasty...

T: This is a Russian Imperial Stout! Strong malt with a touch of bitterness. A hint of coffee in the finish. This is a tasty RIS, but it is a little hot right now. I have another bottle I'm planning on aging for a year or so.

M: Medium body, smooth in the mouth.

Overall: It's a good RIS. Another nice job by Barrier Brewing Company.

The aroma hits of chocolate, lots of rich licorice, roasted malt.

The flavor follows with that smack of licorice up front, ashy roast, onto cacao and dark chocolate. A bit lacking in sweetness and richness.

The mouthfeel is medium minus and slightly light for the style.

Thanks to drewone for sharing this one at Wowcoolman's tasting.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and smoke aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and smoke flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast and smoke bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a nice balance of cocoa and smoke characteristics all around.

Serving type: bottle.
