Black, good head. Many classic notes of a stout are featured here, but there is too much booze on this one for me, not as well balanced as some other examples of the style.

1 pint 6 fl. oz. bottle
Served in a snifter
Bottle 08/28/14
This beer pours black and looks dense. It is capped with an inch or two of deep mocha head that looks thick and rich. The head leaves some nice lacing on the glass.
The smell has deep roasted malt and anise smells.
The taste has some dark fruit and anise flavors. Dark roasted malt also adds flavor.
Full mouthfeel
It reminds me a lot of Bell's Expedition Stout or Founder's Imperial Stout.

Waited a year on this one, since I heard mixed reviews when it was released. Pours pitch black, fluffy tan head that lasts down the glass and decent lacing. Smells roasty and chocolatey, but strong herbal aroma as well. Tastes of coffee, chocolate, burnt toast. Herbal and pine bitterness follow, but the aftertaste brings back the roastiness. Medium-heavy, slick mouthfeel. Also, great label geared towards Cleveland. This one was a pleasure.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 8/28/2014. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, molasses, dark bread, light licorice/dark fruit, smoke, light char, herbal, grass, light pine, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, molasses, dark bread, light licorice/dark fruit, smoke, light char, herbal, grass, light pine, and roasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, molasses, dark bread, light licorice/dark fruit, smoke, light char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Russian imperial stout style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

22oz bottle from Kain05 (thanks man!). Bottled 8/28/14. Served in a Clown Shoes snifter.
Pours a very deep, near-black, brown with a finger and a half toasted khaki head. Patches of froth linger across the surface as well as a halo that leaves huge sheets of khaki lace.
Aroma is very roasty. Heavily kilned malts, dark cocoa, burnt sugar and hints of coffee.
Taste follows the nose rather well. Roasted malt, pure dark chocolate, black coffee, burnt sugar, licorice, dark fruit skins, smoke, earth and a little alcohol heat.
Creamy yet lightly medium body with soft carbonation. Roasty, semi charred finish with hints of burnt coffee and dark chocolate.
As I was expecting, this is a Blaecorn light but not much different at all. A great job packing the first Clown Shoes stout I fell in love with into a lower abv brew.

Beautifully dark brew; basically no head as the bottle cap was knocked loose in transit. I can't knock the beer for that, but neither can I give it full credit.
Big roasty aroma, like barley swimming in a sea of black coffee. A touch of sour red grapes, and an even lighter touch of char. Big. Intimidating.
Perfectly balanced RIS: bold; roasty; hoppy; bitter; aggressive. Hops leave a grassy, bitter finish after a roasty assault has coated your palate.
Mouthfeel was mostly flat due to the bottle cap, but it's a big, smooth brew, a touch hot, and a touch thin for the style.
Very good beer, as expected. For review purposes, I attempted to look beyond the bottle cap issue, which was not Clown Shoes' fault.
