I poured this into a glass, it has a jet black color body with a thick cream head. The smell has a roasted malt aroma to it. The taste has a dark chocolate and roasty ness to it, I get a little hop on the back of the tongue. Mouthfeel is good and overall a good beer.

12 oz. bottle picked up in Port Huron; bottled Jan. 9 2014 and served moderately chilled.

Pours an opaque brownish-black colour with crimson highlights under the light. Seated atop the liquid is just under two fingers of creamy, light tan-coloured froth that manages to retain cohesion for a good 5+ minutes before eventually fading into a messy cap and collar. Beautiful lace. The aroma consists of roasted malts, coffee, raisins and grapefruit, with a hint of pine resin and booze in the background. About what I expect from this style.

Not bad at all, though I think this one's age is starting to show. Lots of dark, roasted malt flavours come through initially - toasted bread, roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate the foremost among them. Citrusy notes of grapefruit pith and some resiny pine bitterness begin to seep through toward the finish, culminating in an interesting finish that combines roasted malts, bitter resin and mild ethanol warmth. The resiny bitterness lingers on the palate after each sip. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation that provides a decent bite to distract you from the astringency.

Final Grade: 4.05, an A-. Certainly one of the better black ales I've had in recent memory. While I am enjoying this glass of Hoppy Feet, the beer itself is pushing 7 months of age and I am inclined to believe that the hop profile has suffered as a result. Considering both of those facts, I'll more than likely revisit this one at some point when I find a younger bottle, and adjust the score accordingly.
