My first offering from Clown Shoes. Poured from the bottle into my DFH Snifter.
A--Poured a near pitch-black color with a brown head. It was foamy and very large because of the aggressive pour. Lot of sticky retention on the glass.
S--Hop forward. But the hops are soon displaced by the malty, porter-like qualities of the beer. Espresso and chocolate are heavy. A bit of caramel and heavy malts.
T--Burnt coffee, dark chocolate, hops, and malts. This is a cornucopia of beer styles. It has the IPA bitterness, but a porter chocolate, creaminess on the backend. Very strange brew.
M--Medium-bodied. Bitterness of the hops is replaced by the sweetness of the malt, but then comes the coffee/dark chocolate bittersweet flavor. The taste lingers in the mouth for a long time.
O--I love IPAs, but so far Black IPAs have not been that good for me. I think it has too much porter-quality for me. This was a very strong, hopped beer, though.
