Bottled November 2011

This beer is deep brown, some red shows through in the light.

Smells like a sweet porter but I did catch notes of nuts, vanilla, and roast.

The taste really is like a pecan pie! Sweet, but not too sweet!

Mouthfeel is a little odd, but not too off putting.

Cool beer! Glad I tried it.

Definitely get the nutty taste along with the baker's sugar and brown sugar. It's not up to the normal standards of clown shoes which I feel is quite high but is still very tasty and enjoyable. A pretty thin mouthfeel and lacks a bit of complex flavors.

L: Pours a dark chocolate brew that forms a moderate tan head, which dissipates fairly slowly to leave behind a light cloud of retention on top. Held to the light, this beer has a nutty umber color, opaque, not quite black.

S: Plenty of roasted malts, baker's chocolate , and pecans. Molasses or browned sugar.

T: Follows the nose. Lots of roasted malts, pecans, and dark chocolate. It's sweet, not really bitter. I wouldn't call this beer complex, it's more of a sugary treat with plenty of carbonation.

F: Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation, has a thinner feel. Dry finish.

O: It's a fine porter. Not my favorite, not super complex, just hits the pecans and roasted malts well.

16 oz can from the Wall of Beer in Clemson SC ($3.69).

Appearance. Essentially black body that comes with a decent beige head but the head has exceptionally poor retention.

This has a really nice, nutty aroma with a strong notes of roasted pecans. Unfortunately, the flavor bears limited resemblance. It's a bit sweet, as I suppose it should be given the name. Some pecan flavoring is here but there's also a suggestion of unharmonious and artificial flavoring. [That's just my sensory impression; the brewer's label says "natural flavors"]. The mouthfeel is slick and full but suffers from overly low carbonation.

From a can. Sweet smells of vanilla and brown sugar, but the taste is a little artificial. None of the roasty, nutty taste I was hoping for from a pecan porter.

A very nice porter.
Very easy to drink for a porter but the feel is light. There is a little lack of thickness or velvet feel if you prefer.
A bit thin on the palate.
Otherwise, there is no real cons on that one ! A very nice beer !

This pint can label states "limited release" and has intergalactic pecan pie championship on the label. Is it the same brew that's been reviewed before? Regardless, there's likely no major differences. With the contents now resting inside a clear pint glass, observed is a very dark, almost black coffee brown liquid. Briefly, there was a modest tan head. For a flavored porter, it's still the roasted malt that stands out front for the nose. To taste, it is initially as the nose predicted. As a stand alone porter, it's very nice. Then, during the finish, the pecan flavor kicks in and it's very nice. Not at all sweet, at least not making this any sweeter than a normal porter. This should be a must try for anyone that likes pecans and porters. It's like eating some pecans whilst drinking a good porter, except there's no chewing involved. Its body is acceptable, but not outstanding. There's no glass lacing, nor taste of the 8% ABV. This is a good flavored porter.

2021 16 oz can. This has almost no taste like described. Super fizzy tan head dissipates quickly. Very thin mouthfeel. Strongest taste is dried fruit/plums. Disappointing

The opaque, deep brown can (from 2021) provides a viscous, stringy pour. Tan foam burbles from below presenting a short-lived cap.
The aroma is of pecan and a sip of coffee. The flavor is sweet and somewhat chemical. Colder is better with this one. Aspects of the nose are prominent.
The mouthfeel is slick and syrupy.
The flavor and aroma are intended. The finish is less like-able for me.
