This is my first beer from Clown Shoes. I’ve heard great things so I was excited to stumble upon this bottle in the beer aisle and even more so to give it a try.
This beer is jet black with a nice thick tan head. The aroma on this beer is pretty damn spectacular. Very hop forward smells of delicious American hops, resin and pine. There are also lots of dark roasted scents coming off this brew as well as some distinct tartness reminiscent of green apple.
The roasted malts in this beer come across incredibly strong on the palate. I would say they dominate this beer’s taste but the generous amount of hops really balances this thing out and it’s not unbalanced by its malty and roasted characteristics. This beer is bitter at first but really mellows out on the tongue and leaves a relatively mellow sweet roasted malty aftertaste that tricks you into taking another sip. The mouth feel is what I would expect from a beer of this type. Thick almost syrupy with very light carbonation.
Overall this is quite a solid beer that I thoroughly enjoyed sipping. It was hard getting through the 22oz bomber by myself but that is just because this thing is a beast of a brew at 10% abv.
