As black as any beer I've seen to date - ZERO light penetration. Finger-thick beige head disappears quickly to little more than a ring. Okay lacing and legs that can be spotted a mile away.
Sweet cocoa and molasses. Undertones of espresso and hints of caramel irradiate through thick malt and surprisingly subtle pine notes. A bit of cola.
This one is a tongue bruiser, but I'll be damned, it's tasty! Wasting no time, this brew attacks with gusto - bitterness hits right away with a distinct pine punch, a bit grassy even. However, gobs of roasted malts and roll with the punches and provide a bit of peat and burnt chocolate. It hurts so good, even the aftertaste is bitter. Alcohol is noticeable. Sweetness is omnipresent but muted and most notable on the finish - mostly molasses.
Thick. More carbonation than I was expecting to encounter. Finishes sweet and somehow dry at the same time. Light alcohol burn. Ashy aftertaste.
Intense... There is nothing subtle about this beer. If you like the clashing of two worlds, this beer is most certainly for you. Whether you're a hophead or you prefer to indulge in sweet malts, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with this. I highly recommend picking this one up, and I also recommend bringing a friend along for the ride. Attempting to tackling a bottle of this, alone, is madness.
