When poured into a glass, this beer had a very appealing rusty, orange coloring. It flowed brilliantly from the bottle with little to no head and carbonation was just right. The aroma of citrus is very delightful and the beer is a bit too sugary or I would have rated alot higher. The beer will leave a slight impression on your tongue, but other than that, I really liked trying a new beer from a company I have never heard of. Not a bad first impression from Clown Shoes, I would like to see what else they have later on.

On the slightly American side of Belgian IPA, this tramp puts out pretty good. It has a bit of extra robustness that American style ones do, but not quite as much so as the pure bred ones.

It pours a bit dark and has moderately thin head and lace. The aroma is a little weak for the style but very appetizing. The taste is pretty bitingly hoppy, with a bunch of malts and Belgian yeasts showing off. It really is a nice mix if a bit on the over the top side.

The aftertaste is also robust - you don't forget it too soon. Overall it is a good effort from the clown people.

Bottle: a standard 355mL brown bottle with a decent craft label.

Appearance: pours a hazy deep orange-amber in colour with a small white head that drops to a thick ring. Not much lacing, but it does look inviting.

Aroma: plenty of citrus hops here, with grapefruit, lemon and tangerine taking the fore. Some bread malts and yeast behind.

Taste: again big citrus notes with some lovely Belgian yeasts and more of those bready malts. The yeasts and the lemon behind make for a wonderful addition to the normal AIPA - I think I could get used to Belgian / American IPAs.

Aftertaste: the flavours all linger through - a lovely drop.

Mouth feel: medium in body with a moderate but spritzy carbonation. Carries those flavours through well without overdoing it.

Overall: definitely the best Belgian India Pale Ale I have had to date. Fantastically complex and less awkward than some others. Another well done to Clown Shoes. Great pricing too, particularly for a high ABV import.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a medium copper color bordering on light brown. Yellowish head forms with a good retention.

Aroma is heavy handed with citrus and floral hop notes but there is a bit of wheat and sweet grains that hint at Belgian style ale.
In the taste, strong Belgian yeast flavor with a banana and bubblegum edge. There is a wealth if earthy hop bitterness that stick out clearly from the musty, sweet Belgian stylings. Just a bit of pine and bitterness come out in the finish.

Medium bodied, well carbonated brew. Lots of flavor to the beer, and could pose a challenge to ipa drinkers not fond of Belgian styles. Overall this was an interesting beer, but probably towards the average range for the style.

Faint bottling date of "02/27/2014."

Thanx to Puboflyons.

Into a chalice.

A: hazy orange/brown colored body with a one finger white foamy head that died within a half a minute, light adequate lacing tries to cling but slides for the most part

S: lightly spiced (more or less clove-ish/coriander-ish) that combines nicely with some citrusy hops that bring out some oranges and lemons

T: bitter and sweet at different times, light spices add their flavoring to assist in balancing and lead to a mainly sweet orange aftertaste and a dry finish

M: it sits about a light to medium on the body, could be slightly construed as sessionable; carbonation is fairly harsh pounding my mouth and tongue into submission, still good for its style and for me

O: I say this is a good Belgian IPA well worthy of having again, if I ever had it again, I'd definitely like to pair it with some king salmon.

I just wanted to say that I really wish that people who didn't like Belgians or people who are new age American hopheads would stop down rating good beers.

This is a fantastic Belgian style IPA, and isn't meant to be overbearingly bitter.

Hop off the hop bandwagon.

This beer is a sub 4 or high 3 review at least.

As far as I can tell, this is the same yeast as the Muffin Top, with a slightly downgraded grain bill. Delicious.
