I got a bottle from Trenton road takeout after I missed the big arrival of vampire slayer.
Poured into my cigar city snifter. Pours opague black with a decent fizzy deep brown heading. Settles to a very thin lacing.
One of the finest noses to a beer yet. Heavy roasted coffee aroma just fills the room. Nice cocoa chocolate aroma as well to where my wife says "that is very chocolately isn't it". Subtle smokiness with a nice kick of booze.
Taste was a little weak. Although the burnt roasted malts were there at the beginning they seem to disappear just as fast as they touch the tongue. A hot sugary alcohol takes over with a linger of cocoa powder. A piney hop touch in the finish.
Full bodied ,ok carbonation. Very thin and boozey in the mouth.
Decent R.I.S. nothing worth seeking out. Just a bit to hot and heavy for me. Definetly a sipper.

Serving Type - 22oz bottle
Appearance - Blackish dark brown/tan with a foamy, thick 12 inch head, lots of sticky lacing.
Smell - Roasted malts, raisin, plum, fig, molasses, chocolate, cocoa, not really abundant aromas.
Taste - First sip starts out very roasted, smokey malts. Thick charcoal flavor with traces of raisin and plum with a minor cherry sweet flavor. Nice amount of bitter hops with bitter coffee comes in after the first wave of smoked malts. A little yeasty sweet note mixed with molasses adds a sweet note to a rather overly bitter beer. Alcohol adds a little warmth in the finish.
Mouthfeel - Roasted malts nail tongue. Coffee and chocolate coat the palate along with some hops and sugars. Aftertaste is malty, bitter, coffee and chocolate with a little alcohol.
Overall - A good solid and ris. Really surprised by the roasted smoked flavor, and also the amount of hops and bitter coffee flavor. The coffee/expresso bitter flavor left on the tongue is a odd flavor, and a turnoff to me honestly. Still, I can drink this and enjoy it but its not my favorite ris.
