Splitting a cellar temp bottle with Stopper. Poured the beer into snifters with a jet black pour and minimal beige head that fades to an edge layer quickly after the pour.
The aroma is dark chocolate and coffee bean, with deep hits of booze and bits of burnt cigar. Definitely seems like this is going to be a sipper of a beer.
The first sip reveals an average body with very fine carbonation that has a bit of sticky texture on my palate after each mouthful.
Flavor is as expected from the nose with big hits of malt and booze.
Lots of molasses, dark chocolate and coffee grinds, the finish is warm booze that heats up my belly after each swallow. I dont really find any hops and enjoy this beer slowly as it is fairly hot. WHile I enjoy the beer and its profile I wonder if it would be better in a couple years with a bit of mellowing under its cap.
It is an aggressive beer that can be enjoyed now, but I will get another bottle and sit on it for 3 years to see what happens.

Bottled on 2/22/13. Says its designed to improve with age.
Appearance: Black body with a thin cap of light brown suds. Not quite as dark as some other stouts but definitely looks the part.
Aroma: Rich dark malt and stone fruit. Dried figs. I've got a bit of a head cold so this thing is very quite aromatic for being about a year and a half since it was bottled.
Taste: Starts with nearly sweet dark malt flavor that transitions to a sweet cream flavor. The hops don't add much to the flavor, likely having faded from sitting on the shelf for so long. However, the bitter tones from the dark malt help balance the creamy sweetness. Finish is bitter coffee grinds. Really not tasting much of the 12.5% ABV apart from a burn on the palate in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Very smooth with moderate carbonation. Full in body.
Final Thoughts: This one basically met my expectations. Would have liked to taste a little vanilla or perhaps an oaken-aged version just to spruce it up a bit. The flavor is consistent with many other well known stouts of the style. Definitely a well done beer but nothing special. Would I drink it again? Maybe if it was on nitro-tap.
