Another one from a few nights ago. Going off of some notes I took on BeerCitizen (when will there be a bA app?)

APPEARANCE: All RIS are the same. Black, thick, oily with a slim head. It looks like something that would be drank by a character in a film about slaying vampires (maybe the hero would be drinking this while decimating all the characters of Twilight?)

AROMA: Great, sweet aroma on this. Dark malts, lots of chocolate (milk and baker's chocolate). The alcohol is prominent and there's also some subdued smoke, coming from the malts smoked with hickory, ash, and "vampire killing stakes". I think the smoke is a good addition here.

TASTE: As to be expected with the style, there are sweet malts, dark/milk/baker's chocolate, and some coffee. The smoke is nice - not overbearing, but noticeable. It lingers in the shadows of my palate. Also some low alpha hops are in there among it all. I'm not sure what Holy Water tastes like, but I'll assume it's in there.

MOUTHFEEL: Big bodied and heavy in the mouth. The alcohol feels strong in this one, but it's not too hot. It leaves a nice warming sensation in the throat.

OVERALL: A fantastic Russian Imperial Stout. I've had so many bourbon barrel-aged stouts lately I almost forgot what the regulars tasted like. Solid example of the style, it hits all the right notes, and the subtle addition of smoke adds some depth.

Serving Type - 22oz bottle

Appearance - Black, dark tan with a 3/4 inch foamy head, lots of sticky lacing.

Smell - Smokey malts, chocolate, coffee, licorice, anise, brown sugar and molasses, raisin and plum, Milky/lactate sweet aroma.

Taste - Starts off much like the aroma, smoked malts with chocolate and coffee. Smooth, balanced, the chocolate works with both the malts and sugars to balance out any bitterness and providing a sweet and smooth flavor. Smoked malts are muted by the coffee and chocolate and really make this pleasant to drink. Dark fruits such as raisin and plum add a fruity flavor.

Mouthfeel - Smoked malts and chocolate coat the tongue. Palate gets more malts and chocolate along with some coffee, added sugars and dark fruits. Aftertaste is malty, sweet and slightly warm.

Overall - A really nice American stout. Really balanced well, smooth and easy to enjoy. The smell might make you thing this would be a smokey monster but, with the added sugars, and chocolate, really balance this beer out. Great drink, glad I got to try.

LOOK: Dark brown with a tan head. Dark oily looking brew. The head laces the glass well. Overall, this has the ominous look of a fine imperial stout.

SMELL: Delicious chocolate malt aroma, along with coffee, charcoal and roast. Smells like a nice full, roasted assed stout.

TASTE: Mocha, espresso, dark chocolate and a bit of cream. A bit of hop bitterness is perceived, and the citrus and pine almost tasted, but the big malt bill overpowers these forces. Just a hint of heat in the finish, this drinks more like a regular stout rather than the imperial beast that this is. There is a full, chewy body and medium carbonation. This is a smooth devil of a beer, I mean, a smooth Vampire slayer.

OVERALL: Smooth operator...smoooth vampire slayer!
