Bold flavor profile. You can taste the big chocolate notes, with the coffee notes. Some vanilla comes in, and it's like chocolate milk. I get a slight milky profile. Some roasty characters, not smokey. But huge flavors bursting. This is great for the price, and it feels like I'm drinking a barrel aged stout that should be marked up ten more bucks.

Pours a half inch head.Smell is dark malt and coffee up front with chocolate lacing.A little boozy on first sip but actually well done and a great aftertaste.Melts in the mouth. Not as good as Fidy but a little better than a Stone. And they named this one an American Imperial Stout!Skal!

22oz bottle, nice to finally be able to sample the wares of this much-hyped contract brewery. Wannabe slayers of both the undead and lawyers - works for me!

This beer pours a solid black abyss, any thoughts of light-borne edges or streaks dead on arrival, with two fat fingers of puffy, seriously dense, and egregiously bubbly chocolate milk brown head, which leaves some thorough limestone cliff painted lace around the glass as it slowly abates.

It smells of bittersweet chocolate, wet ash, an additional bit of savoury smoke, bready caramel malt, dry coffee and vanilla notes, and leafy, earthy, and somewhat weedy hops - no real indication of the 10 points of ABV, just yet. The taste is kind of thin chocolate syrup, grainy caramel malt, rain-soaked smoking hickory embers, a soft lactic sourness, brown sugar-heavy molasses, and herbal, leafy, and lightly citrusy hops.

The carbonation is pretty sedate, barely a subversive burble to be found throughout, the body a mere medium weight for the style, and generally smooth, with a small suggestion of veritable creaminess. It finishes off-dry, sort of, as the burgeoning smokiness takes a chunk out of the various cocoa and caramel notes bandying about, the hops staying true to form, and the alcohol somehow manifesting sans any overt heat.

Wow, and for a few different reasons - mostly, the overall lightness of being of this supposedly heady offering - there's just so little weight to it all - as well as the crazily integrated 20-proof booze - hard to sense any of it, at any time, a nervous tic inducing state, I can tell you. Tasty, and enjoyable overall, I suppose, but the hops are somewhat disappointing in their support of the term 'American', the result seeming less than worthy of said nation's better examples of the style.

Picked up a bomber, liked the label picture.

Looks pretty consistent with other Stouts, nice dark caramel color head, that hangs around at the edges. I will admit, that type of head on a stout gets me jowls ringing.

Great nose on this one. Coffee, booze, and vanilla in a well balanced way. If you are a fan of Imperial Stouts, then this nose should tingle your spider senses.

Typically I am not a fan at all of carbonation in Stouts, but the carbo in Undead is money. You get lots of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, toffee, smoke, and the booze. The carbonation acts like a sandblaster, almost abrasively grinding the flavors down into your taste buds. And I love it. I let it warm up, flavors even out, almost a creamy mouthfeel.

This was a pleasant surprise. I am now a fan.
