Bottled 10/23/12. I thought I was getting something fresh, but alas, I didn't.
Pours from a 22oz bottle into a Gordon Biersch half liter pint glass. Pours pitch black and topped with a cuban coffee colored head. Quite frothy and creamy, looks nice.
Aroma is filled with dark chocolate nibs and roasted coffee. Really nice. The malts and chocolate are about the only thing that hits the nose, but although this beer is six months old, the aromas seem to be rather fresh.
I love the dark chocolate flavors present, almost like eating bakers chocolate. I know this may sound heretical, but this one is kind of close to what Sexual Chocolate used to be like. Heavy, dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee, Caramel malts, light hoppiness, slight bitterness.
Silky smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Perhaps a little more body and chewiness would put this one in the upper echelon.
I was really surprised by this one. Despite the age, this one is really delicious. If you like dark chocolate and a bitter roastiness, this beer is for you. Very enjoyable.
