This is Blaecorn Unidragon made with Beechwood Smoked malt, which adds a natural meaty note (there is no actual meat in the brew). Aged 100% bourbon barrels. Little piggies run, squeal to the heavens: Clown Shoes wishes you luck.

Undated bottle, but I think it's a good 5-6 years old. Solid looking and smelling beer. Doesn't look much different than most stouts, but that's not a bad thing. Aroma doesn't burst from the glass, but up close there's a nice malty sweetness that almost smells like a bit of maple syrup, along with some faint barrel.

That barrel is more pronounced on the tongue, but what I immediately noticed was the nice smoky characteristics. The base stout is solid, but as somebody who likes smoke, I really like how the smoked malts elevate the overall character of this beer. Very full bodied and does an excellent job of coating the mouth.

Enjoying this one more than I thought I would.

Purchased back in 2015 finally getting around to drinking it. It's either from 12 or 13 based on the date on the bottle.

A: Poured into a snifter to a black beer topped by a finger of dense tan head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of dark roasted malts, some smoke, dark chocolate, powdered sugar, some oak, vanilla, and some coffee
T: Taste is fairly smoky up front before some oak comes in, roasted malts, light vanilla, dark chocolate, charred wood, and dark roasted coffee. On the swallow we get more roasted malts, smoke and oak, with some lingering vanilla, charred wood, and slightly burned toasted marshmallow
M: This beer is pretty full in body with a mouthfeel that's slightly silky. Carbonation is low but adequate for the style while the beer has a drying finish.
O: Overall this is an awesome beer. It's held up surprisingly well given the age and doesn't show any signs of having fell off. I can't pick up any notes of oxidation and everything here tastes like it belongs. Well brewed and bottled. The flavors and complexity on this beer are really nice. The smoke comes through pretty well and really helps to tie everything together. Worth a try if this makes another appearance.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a thin collar of dark tan bubbles around the edge of the glass and some lacing on the surface.
S: Moderate aromas of black licorice are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of flavors of black licorice along with associated hints of smoke.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: Despite the bourbon barrel aging, this beer is mostly dominated by aromas and flavors of black licorice.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black with a thin tan head that settles to an everlasting ring but leaves little splotches of lacing. Smells of smoke, bourbon, roasted malts and oak. Taste follows the nose with additional flavors of dark chocolate, vanilla, char, licorice and toffee. Medium to heavy bodied, light carbonation, slightly bitter finish and a creamy, somewhat chewy mouth feel.

OK head retention. Inviting dark ebony brew.

Smoked malt, roasted barley, bourbon, and oak are all present on the news. It is very clearly a big, strong, imposing beer.

Huge roasty and smoked presence on the palate. Not at all surprising for this brew. A really nice meaty presence from the smoked malt - very good for a US brewer. Bourbon is very restrained, and definitely comes in second fiddle here, but it does blend very well with the overall profile.

Big bold beer, but drinks sub-10%, vice over 12%. Really nice.

Well the barrel presence is less so than in other clown shoes beer, The overall integration of the smoked malt is more impressive than the regular offerings. This will no doubt be more polarizing than their other offerings, as the smoky flavor is not for everyone. However, I found it really darn impressive.
