22 oz bottle poured into a tulip

A- Black with a small tan head.

S- Chocolate, roasted coffee, smokey, some vanilla, some bourbon and oak.

T- Chocolate, smokey, coffee, bourbon, oak, hot finish, bitter, licorice.

M- Hot, medium body.

O- I am enjoying this more and more as I drink it, not the best barrel aged stouts, but worth the money. Wish the body was thicker and a little creamy.

Poured from a 22oz. Bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance - Almost opaque black, with just a hint of ruby/brown on the edges when held up to a light source.

Aroma - I might've had this a bit too cold, as I didn't get much in the aroma. I could faintly pick out some smoke, wood (?), and maybe the slightest bit of chocolate.

Taste - First thing I noticed was the smoke and bourbon (sweetness). Then the classic RIS flavors try to push through: chocolate, toasty malt, slight vanilla...

Mouthfeel - This was a bit too much in the middle for me. I wish it were to be almost no carbonation, or a bit more. It was slightly light, but not enough. IMO. The carbonation doesn't assist the flavors in the way I feel it should.

Overall - I would drink this again, but only if I had the Blaecorn side by side, so as to compare the two. It's definitely good, but nothing to call home about.

22oz bomber purchased at Pinocchio's in Media, PA. Poured into a Chimay goblet.

AP: Fairly straight black in colour, like treacle. Not much head on this when poured, only about 1/4" of a tan head that dissipates to a rim and dusting with minimal lacing.
AR: Bloody hell, I can smell the Bourbon booziness and the glass is sitting on the desk at such a length that my outstretched arm can touch the glass with my fingertips. Damn. Vanilla, chocolate and a little bit of roast as well. Not really getting any other aromas on this, but the ones that are here smell delicious.
T: Pretty much spot on to the nose. Wow, this thing has got some Whiskey heat on it. It starts out somewhat smooth and mellow and you can really taste the Whiskey in it, then the heat goes up the longer it lingers in your mouth. Finish is pretty hot. Probably a little too hot and this one could have benefited from 6-12 months of cellaring. The Whiskey heat takes over a little too much, IMO.
M: This feels a bit thin in body for a Stout. Silky smooth texture, but lacking in body. Maybe that's why the Whiskey heat comes through so much, because it lacks chewiness?
OV: Well, if you like a strong Whiskey presence in your Stout, then this is the beer for you. Me, I prefer more balance and harmony and this beer has neither. Still good, but not great by a long stretch. Due to the thin body, I don't even think a year of cellaring would help this much.

Beer is pitch black. Pour results in a a smallish tan head. Fades fairly quickly.

Bourbon jumps out as the first smell, along with smoke. Roasted malt.

Taste is quite smoky, actually much stronger than the bourbon, although that is there as well. Wood. Fairly hot. The smoke and the barrel drown out most of the base beer. Some roast malt, rather bitter.

Full bodied, low carbonation. A bit astringent.

Overall, good but not more than that. Hard to get much of the base beer- smoke, bourbon and heat is too strong.

Served from a 22 oz bomber poured into a snifter
A - pours a dark brown almost black with a very thin light brown head
S - chocolate, coffee with a slight hint of bourbon on the nose. Not quite as boozy as I thought it would be
T - Much like the nose chocolate, coffee, with slight vanilla and a bit of the bourbon barrel on the finish
M - not too carbonated (which I like for this style). Starts slow but has a dry, pleasantly boozy finish. Smoke notes throughout
O - The only thing I love more than beer is bourbon, so I am all over every bourbon barrel aged beer I can find. Not quite as much of the boozy bourbon taste I like in a bourbon barrel beer but still an excellent brew. An excellent, high quality imperial stout that I will be purchasing a couple more bombers of to go in the cellar!

a: as it pours it looks rather thin for a smoked r.i.s. aged in bourbon barrels... not thick and oily looking like most I've had. but the head on the beer is a little thicker than a normal r.i.s as well, light khaki head about 3/4 inch thick, color is a nice dark black.
s: smells slightly sweet and very malty with hints of smoke but no traces of bourbon on the nose, hopefully more bourbon in the taste than in the smell...
t:...taste is very similar to the smell, the smoke is apparent which is nice but on the border of too much, would be much better if balanced more with boozy bourbonyness, unfortunately not enough bourbon for me, it is definitely there but not enough, i'd say its a 2.5 outta 5 for bourbon flavors. this is a rich one though, starting to wonder if i'm going to be able to take down this 22 ounces in its entirety, it might take me all night, good thing its early. and the boozy heat is coming out more unfortunately without the bourbon :(
mf: it's okay but a little too carbonated for a stout i'd say a medium high to high low carbonation, does has a dry finish which does help though.
oa: this is subpar for what I was really looking forward to with this one, glad I only bought one bottle but kinda wonder what it tasted like fresh about 4 months ago...?

A - thick, oil-like black with a large, dark brown head that is thick and dense. The head has good retention and leaves nice lacing

S - bourbon, vanilla, licorice, plums, raisins, roasted malts

T - roasted malts, vanilla, huge bourbon, booze, plums, raisins, burnt caramel, licorice, faint chocolate

M - warming alcohol, full bodied, well carbonated

This is really a big beer. The nose and flavor truly showcase the bourbon barrel aging. The stout itself is rich, full flavored, and deep. This beer hits on every flavor that a RIS should, the bourbon is huge but well matched. My only complaint is that this is intensely boozy. I'm sure a little age could mellow it out. Overall, this is really a solid offering that I highly recommend to any serious BBA or stout lover.

Pours with a small head of tan foam on top of a black body. An odd aroma of booze, chocolate, and roast grain. Caramel and chocolate malt up front. Vanilla, chocolate, and coffee in the middle and a finish with smoke and bourbon. A thick body, modately carbonating, and a sweet finish. Oddly, this starts out kind of weak with an almost chemical aroma, but it fades as the beer breathes and turns into something pretty nice. The smoke works nicely with the bourbon and while it is a little boozy it is quite drinkable.
