A - 4.0 - Dark brown with a modest cream colored head that endures for a respectable time after an aggressive pour.

S - 3.0 - Weak aroma, but what is there is pleasant. Slightly coffee, a little malty, with something sweet - no doubt the brown sugar on the label. It scores lower not because the aroma is bad - it's not - but because there isn't much of it.

T - 3.75 - Mild and slightly sweet. Slightly astringent in that pecan sort of way. There's something tangy back in the corners of my mouth. Char and wood in the aftertaste, or maybe pecan + char = a sort of wood note. The longer term aftertaste is a nice mix of the same mild sweetness and dryness coming from the woody mild char.

M - 3.75 - Just shy of medium body, cut by active carbonation initially.

O - 3.75 - A solid and versatile offering with a pleasant, mature taste and an enjoyable mouthfeel. I wouldn't say it reminds me of pecan pie at all as Pumking reminds me of pumpkin pie. It's a little timid but that also makes it very drinkable, enjoyable, and uncomplicated. I like it better than most porters I've tried. This would be welcome anytime, a nice middle ground between a lighter ale and a stout, a beer to drink when you want something substantial after dinner but don't want to put too much thought into it. Clown Shoes has yet to disappoint me.

Poured from a 650 ml bottle into a footed tulip.

A: Black. Pours a half finger, bubbly, brown head. Settles pretty quickly. Very slight lacing mostly retreats into the body of the brew.

S: Roasted espresso, dark chocolate, licorice, molasses, and pecan... I guess.

T: Roasted coffee is prominent. Pecans are also very prominent. Subtle inklings of other accentuates available in the nose.

M: Roasty and hearty. Syrupy, and a little boozy. Slightly bitter, liquory aftertaste lingers on the palate.

D: Sip and enjoy.

Atmosphere is pretty good. Slight head and very little lacing. Nose is roasted coffee, chocolate, licorice, and molasses mostly. The pecans come out in the flavor along with the coffee, but very little of the other components are evident. Overall, this is a pretty good quaff.

This beer pours an opaque black with a nice amount of dark tan head, leaves a little bit of lacing, looks solid.

On the nose you can pick up on a sweet and nutty pecan pie aroma, its got way more sweetness than I would have expected, no hops or boozyness detected.

Flavor wise its got a nice sweet start and a really roasty and nutty finish.. I can pick up on a little bit of bready malt somewhere in the middle. Has a smokey aftertaste that lingers on the tongue inbetween sips

Its substantially thick for a porter, which I really like.

Overall, exactly what I expected from clown shoes, a solid offering, really interesting porter.

Deepest of browns and with a full inch of creamy tan head to begin, dying down to about a quarter as much, clinging to the edges throughout.

Dark roasted malts, inhaled through the nose and pushing outward like the air in a balloon.

Deep roastiness, but not from the coffee or chocolate that so often accompany the style. This is a distinctive nuttiness that could only come from what they’ve done with pecans here, which slowly roll around the mouth like they’re still whole. Sweet from the brown sugar, earthy, soft and chewy. Lingers for minutes.

Smooth and still prickly on the tongue, mildly burning on the back of the tongue.

Easy to drink and enjoy, especially this time of year. Tasty and unique.
