Spiced with vanilla, cinnamon, ancho and chipotle peppers, then aged 100% in Bourbon Barrels, this beer wants to leap onto your palate like a luchador who dives into the ring from atop the highest rope.

Purchased this mammoth can in port charlotte Florida on vacation. Poured the whole thing into the biggest ass snifter I’ve ever done seen. Man did that dark brown sap bubble up into a furious foam more than an inch thick crawling up the center of the glass. High marks for scent. It’s chocolate, it’s coffee, it’s cinnamon, it’s a bit spicy too. The taste is quite bitter and I’m getting the same notes on a swallow. Bittersweet chocolate, coffee, cinnamon, and just the faintest hints of chipotle peppers as advertised on the can. The taste doesn’t quench, it doesn’t have the depth of some stouts I’ve had. It’s a bit two dimensional, but bubbles up nicely in a medium bodied finish. Overall it’s decent, but that’s the strongest word I can use for it. It does everything right, but somehow lacks a bit of a spirit. It’s like a musician who can play all the right notes impressively, yet lacks soul in their playing. But hey I’m not complaining. Technically, it’s quite good.

Pitch black with a minimal head that dissolved into a patch of suds bubbles. Sweet aroma: chocolate, caramel & brown sugar. Sweet with some bitter & a hint of salty. A fairly complex flavor profile with dark chocolate at the fore, cinnamon, vanilla, bourbon, oak, chart, Mexican hot chocolate. A bit thin for a stout. It’s lack of of carbonation is made up with a lingering mild heat. A Mexican hot chocolate with bourbon.

22oz bottle poured into a tulip

A- pours black in color with a one-finger foamy khaki head that has short retention

S- smells of oaky bourbon barrel up front, along with aromas of chocolate, mocha, cinnamon, vanilla cream and brownie batter. A hint of pepper on the nose

T- the barrel is bold up front, with notes of barrel juice, oak and caramel. Mid-palate brings out a chocolate note that is complimented by cinnamon and some green pepper. The finish gives more chocolate, some fig, bourbon and a hint of vanilla

M- medium-heavy body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns creamy into the finish

Didn't get much of anything from this brew except mild bourbon and stout. I hint of cinnamon as it warmed up. It was fine enough but I think it was just a tad too old. Probably sitting on a shelf too long.

Dark black with a quickly fading head. Smells like cinnamon, vanilla, bourbon, chocolate and peppers. Tastes the same as the aromas. Sweet and medium bodied. Great beer.

I don't know what was wrong with this, but instead of getting spices on the nose and in the taste, I got aluminum.

I dunno. Certainly looked decent and had an okay mouthfeel but if what I smelled and tasted was a manifestation of the spices they used, they need to alter the recipe. There was no bite, no fire, no hint of cinnamon or nutmeg. I really don't know what they were doing.

Form the 22 oz bottle in a snifter. This beast pours a deep obsidian with
dark cola highlights and a decent head of tan foam that settles to a thin ring,
subtle layer, and shows some subtle lacing. Nose of bourbon, chocolate,
cinnamon, pepper spice, and moderate vanilla. Flavors exceed the nose with
dark cocoa over a terrain of bourbon and light oak notes with vanilla and
cinnamon on the middle of the palate with a touch of coffee and fudge brownie
on the rear dashed with cinnamon and smokey pepper notes that are balanced
and tame compared to the description. Notes of roast and notably char are
more present with warmth as are other notes of marshmallow and earthy
oak. Nice mouth feel; full body, smooth, lightly slick, coating, low carbonation,
warming, and a rich Mexican hot chocolate given a splash of bourbon finish.

What else is there to say----it's solid as are all the other Clown Shoes brews.

Cheers
