Picked up a growler at Julio's. Poured into my Duvel tulip.
A - Pours a nice solid brown hue with a good one finger thick and creamy mocha head that fades to a nice creamy blanket. Solid creamy lacing as well.
S - Nice aromas here. Good rich chocolate notes. Definitely get the mexican chocolate notes, that gritty almost spicy. Lots of rich vanilla as well, not an overdose but quite prominent. Good bourbon follows up along with faint barrel notes. Not getting much roast or booze either.
T - Like the nose this starts off with good rich chocolate notes. Not quite as rich as the nose. Vanilla is there too along with slight sweetness. Faint barrel notes and smooth bourbon. Alcohol is almost totally hidden here. Faint subtle spice, had to go searching for it. For the most part this tastes like a chocolate stout with splashes of vanilla and bourbon.
M - Mouthfeel is solid for the style. Nice and silky smooth and creamy. No booze on this. Amazing what a month can do I guess.
O - Overall, a tasty imperial stout. Nice chocolate notes, would like to see more bourbon flavours in this. All this considered this is a tasty brew.

22 oz. bottle poured into a Founders snifter.
Appearance: Pours black with a thin beige head. Not much head retention.
Smell: There is a lot going on here. Bourbon, chiles, vanilla, milk chocolate. An interesting dark fruit presence (primarily back cherry) comes into the picture and takes over a bit before being covered up by more chocolate and vanilla.
Taste: Vanilla and milk chocolate up front with some more of that dark fruit. Cinnamon and a bit of chile pepper (not really any heat, but a nice smoky chipotle flavor). Bourbon is very subtle in the flavor profile. I could go for more bourbon and less dark fruit, but overall this is a great flavor profile - complex and delicious.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, medium carbonation.Would prefer a little less carbonation in this one.
Overall: Great showing from Clown Shoes. There is a lot going on in this beer and it comes together quite well.
