Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a nonic glass.

A: Clear, light amber color with over one finger of persistent off-white foam head. Heavy lacing remains in the glass and a few loosely-formed streams of tiny bubbles rise in the column.

S: Ripe tropical fruit and gentle pine--more lychee than fir, to be sure. Some black pepper and grainy cracker is also able to edge its way into the profile, making for a surprisingly balanced display. No alcohol is detected.

T: Begins off-dry, with muted hops aromatics that are piney and earthy before esters-affected crystal malt takes over. Acidity is restrained into the middle where flavors remain malt-focused until sweetness abruptly turns needle-sharp in the presence of developing bitterness. Booziness is a transient question mark during the latter half of the profile, appearing distinct at times and absent during others. The finish is dry by comparison, moderately bitter, and dank.

M: Medium viscosity, slightly resinous and syrupy on the palate, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: This beer is all IPA from top to bottom; unfortunately it tries to serve as a vessel for the Galaxy cultivar of hops but falls short. While the smell sees fairly well-represented Galaxy hops qualities competing for attention with malt, the flavors could have been derived entirely from Columbus hops. As with most commercially-produced pale ales boasting of Galaxy hops as an ingredient, this beer stumbles badly in its attempt to deliver.

Had 20 oz. of this bad boy on tap at The BBC in Norwood, MA. It's my first Clown Shoes experience and I liked it a lot.

First, it looked great. It was a nice amber color with a bit of a haze and very alive. The smell made me dive right in. Like all best from my favorites in one glass.

But when it comes down to it I'm a taste and mouth feel guy. I need my taste buds to do a dance when they are introduced to a new brew and I wasn't let down. The other thing that will drive me away from a brew is a watery mouth feel but this offering has nothing to fear.

I really enjoyed it and will be on the hunt for their other selections.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy orange amber with a smallish off white head that goes to a thin film that leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet nutty caramel malt (kind of imperial reddish), with some tropical fruit and resiny hops. It's a little subdued.

The flavor is sweet nutty malts with some ripe fruit and fresh resiny hops. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with slightly sharp carbonation.

Overall, seems more like an OK "imperial red" type. Sweet nutty caramel malts with resiny hops and some fruit.

On tap at Imbibe. Pours an orange amber color with a short head that quickly dissipates into light lacing. The nose on this is nice, with lots of citrus influences. The taste has more malt influences leaning towards toffee and caramel with some bitterness at the end. A nice medium bodied beer that drinks easily and covers the alcohol content well.
