The problem with this beer...it's more of a malt then an IPA. It poured and looked more malty then a pale ale.

Appearance: Nice dark, malty color. (My favorite part of the beer)
Smell: Apricot, figs.
Taste: Malty, hops are weak (to me, i love hoppy beer)
Mouthfeel: Filling
Overall: I would not order this IPA again.

Had this on tap at a local brewpub it has a delicious looking color only to be backed up by the awesome citrus smell. I love hop forward beers so this seemed right up my alley. Until I took a sip, the malt backbone is overpowering the hops to my palate. Making this a really sweet almost caramel malt beer. Not a bad thing, but the nose threw me for a loop.

Overall this was an enjoyable drink, just not balanced enough for my liking. But if you're looking for a beer with a nice heavy and sweet maltiness to it, look no further.

On tap at Imbibe. Pours an orange amber color with a short head that quickly dissipates into light lacing. The nose on this is nice, with lots of citrus influences. The taste has more malt influences leaning towards toffee and caramel with some bitterness at the end. A nice medium bodied beer that drinks easily and covers the alcohol content well.

This beer pours a clear amber body with a small offwhite head.

Nose is insane. Holy shit! Is the phrase most offen spoken upon first smell. Huge citric fresh hops and clean fresh grain. Right up there with the best DIPA.

Taste is medium bodied. Smooth caramel malt follow by huge citric and floral and resin hop flavor and bitterness. Just lush flavor from start to finish. Huge and in charge nd well balanced in every sip. Ends with a lingering resin hop. Nice.!!

How is this beer getting such low reviews? This beer is like a clear clone of Heady Topper. Absolutely spectacular beer. A big hop heads wet dream.

Had on Tap in a tulip glass

A) Cloudy, copper orange color, dark orange center. Thick 2 finger head that has an orange hue with lots of lacing.

S) Wow reminds me of a west coast DIPA, citrusy fruits, apricot, mango, sour candy, honey

T) Honey, hard candy, citrus type fruits, no lingering alcohol

M) Juicy, thick and creamy. Low carbonation.

O) Absolutely delish!, one of my new favorite DIPAs very West Coast for an East Coast.

On tap at Newhall Refinery in Newhall, CA.

Pours a hazy light copper with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest and slight tropical flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice citrus forward hop presence in the aroma and flavor.

Had 20 oz. of this bad boy on tap at The BBC in Norwood, MA. It's my first Clown Shoes experience and I liked it a lot.

First, it looked great. It was a nice amber color with a bit of a haze and very alive. The smell made me dive right in. Like all best from my favorites in one glass.

But when it comes down to it I'm a taste and mouth feel guy. I need my taste buds to do a dance when they are introduced to a new brew and I wasn't let down. The other thing that will drive me away from a brew is a watery mouth feel but this offering has nothing to fear.

I really enjoyed it and will be on the hunt for their other selections.

On-tap 6/10/2013 at Track 84 in Warwick, RI, served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep amber color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains fruity citrus, floral hops and caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with strong sweet flavors of citrus and caramel. Then a strong but not over-powering hops presence comes in. The malt character is hearty and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Very tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, good kick, very good representation of style, this is a very solid 2IPA worth drinking for a long time.

Poured into pint glass.

A Hazy amber. Little head and lacing.

S Hoppy and piney right up front. Cut grass.

T Really hoppy and flowery. A little soapy. Nice and bitter. There is a tangy taste at the finish. This is not unpleasant but kind of different for the particular style.

M Light. Watery. No carbonation or fizz. Finishes nice and clean.

O This is pretty good. Really hoppy and bitter. If that's your thing you will enjoy this. There's no balance, which is probably intended. Nothing special, just a nice easy drinking hop bomb.

Served in a snifter at Firkin.

Finishing off my birthday dinner at Firkin with a bit of Galaxy-hopped stuff. Why not? It pours a mostly clear sunset amber topped by a finger of off-white foam. The nose comprises berry-laden greens, light caramel, and grapefruit zest. The taste brings in more of the same, with some flowers and a touch more fruit. The body is a light-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda drying finish. Overall, a pretty tasty Galaxy beast, one that somehow doesn't overdo things. Not bad.

Pours an attractive solid copper/amber color with not much carbonation but with definite lacing. Nice looking beer which makes me want to taste it.

Smells fresh, hoppy, somewhat piney – the smell makes me want to taste it.

Taste (finally!) Starts out sweet and malty with sharp flowery hop profile which reminds you this IS definitely an IPA. That’s followed by an interesting bitter aftertaste, but which does not linger. Yummy stuff. GREAT balance between sweet malt, and bitter hops. After just a few sips, that bitter aftertaste all but disappears!! All you taste are delicious sweet malt and equally delicious bitter hops – very nice. I could not really taste the alcohol, but after just 6 oz., I got this warming sensation and very satisfying buzz which reminded me of its 8% ABV…and made me smile. 

Mouthfeel: some creaminess, not much carbonation, feasting tastebuds…

Overall a VERY solid and tasty IPA, with an awesome sweet and malty profile. I am buying more…

On-tap at Union Brew House in Weymouth, MA.

A: Copper in color with an amber hue. Creamy, thick, off white head. Light lace and retention.

S: Huge hops. Resin, pine, sap, evergreen, fresh cedar.

T: Delicious hop profile supported by a solid malt backbone. This one isn't hiding the hops. Very one sided. For the hop head. But fresh and tasty.

M: Sharp, bitter, fresh, resiny, heavily hopped, and properly carbonated.

O: I thought Clown Shoes fell off. Hadn't heard from them in a while. This is a very impressive beer to put them back on my map. Although...it is a relatively easy style to do well. Just kidding.

12 oz. bottle made on 3/17/14...so pretty much a month old. This beer was poured into a normal pint glass.

A: Pour hazy, dark orange. There is a lot of yeast sediment present and a high amount of carbonation. Head is thick, tan, and long-lasting. Not great looking, but pretty decent.

S: Smell is very dank and tropical. Lots of herbal/weed type smell with a nice dose of orange and grapefruit. Love the Galaxy hop smell profile.

T: Dankness continues into the taste....one of the more danker beers I've had in awhile. Very herbal. However, there is a nice dose of tropical notes as well some earthy, zesty notes, too. There's a lot of depth here. One of the things I love about Galaxy hops is the amount of depth that the taste has. No bitterness at all. A bit of lemon rind and alcohol on the back end.

M: While it looks overcarbonated, it's pretty much carbonated perfectly. Fairly light body and easy to drink.

O: Pretty good double IPA. The Galaxy hop profile is always nice and complex. Clown Shoes IPAs are generally hit or miss, but I'd say this one is worth a try, especially at a $8/4 pack price point.

12 oz bottle. bottled on 03/03/14.

A: pretty muddy, a lot of haze on a dark orange body. very frothy slightly off-white head. bubbly. good retention. lots of lacing. don't like this haze though...

S: bright and tropical. a little bit of coconut. not oxidation, but there is a soapy aroma in there. I take that back, this is oxidized. a cardboard blah flavor.

T: not very enjoyable on this front. that cardboard shit flavor becomes more and more prevalent as I keep drinking. grainy. unpleasant.

M: carb is a little low. medium bodied.

D: only a month old and it already turned to complete shit? that's a huge fucking pass from me. reminds me of a homebrew and I mean that in a bad way. really bad. step your shit up clown shoes.

Tasted On: 04-14-2014
Freshness: Not indicated
Packaging: 12 oz. brown bottle, pry-cap
Glassware: Tulip pint
Purchased: Received from a friend

Appearance is a cloudy and dark copper-colored beer. The head, off-white and tall, shows excellent retention and a pretty good tracing of lace.

Aromas are mostly of hops -- big citrus hoppy smells with tropical fruit notes like pineapple that also lend a little sweetness.

Taste is rich and hoppy. Bitterness is fairly strong, but there is a current of caramel malts to act as a counter-balance. I also can feel some alcohol warming.

The mouthfeel is thick and creamy. The beer finishes with a semi-dry aftertaste of pine and citrus hops, leaving you with a memory of spicy hops.

My first beer from Clown Shoes and I liked it. I like Galaxy hops and this is a good vehicle for them.

Shout out to Craig for grabbing this one for me!

nice glowing orange color, sticky white foam cap that bows in the middle, lots of clarity so you can watch the game of bubbles battling in the brew, lacing is superb, a great looking brew

stinky weed hops, the hops are strong with this one, absolutely delicious hop aroma, damn fresh green goodness is gronking my schnozz, beyond the lovely hop aroma there is a lemony effervescence to balance things out, the guiding light to the heavens is the hops and man does
this bring it correct

taste etc...
carbonation is pretty subtle, mildly prickly, medium of the road bitterness with an interesting almost orange note (but not citric/acidic), the hops are not as aggressive as they are in the nose, if they were this would be a home run, that said this is a solid double to the gap (hey,
baseball season just started cut me some damn slack), this certainly is an easy drinker, the ABV is well hidden and sneaks up on you (even with those big doofy shoes), this really has some heft to it which is definitely the malt carrying the load with the hops holding up the canopy (and a subtle lemon finish)

this beer is a bit of a quandary, but one I don't mind finding myself in, while I don't love it, I love lots of parts of it, overall this is a really enjoyable beer, and it definitely is not just another IPA in the crowd, it stands on its own for sure, which is a good thing, definitely worth checking out, glad this brewery's wares are locally available now

A: maybe my fav aspect of this beer, poured a beautiful dark, cloudy apricot color.

S: This is not a bright flowery ipa, smells sweet but more like brown sugar or figs. Hints at the malt backbone an I think I detect alcohol.

T: sweet figs like the smell, def smokey tone

M: considering the huge influence of the malt in this beer, it isn't two syrupy and the hops adequately cuts through. Front of the tongue is hit by sharp bitter hops, quickly moves to smooth malty feel mid mouth and finally a little bubbly tingle in the back of your throat, pretty nice actually.

O: I'm impressed, reminds me of sixpoint resin but a bit scaled back. Most IPAs with this much smokey malt leave too much of a syrupy feel, but this is cut nicely by the hops.

Instead of this being a hop bomb, this is a malt bomb. I get some apricot in this one, very dank. I like this IPA, but the malt is a bit much for my liking. Trying to get past the malt is hard. I want more hops, but I didn't come through.

Wouldn't pick this one up again.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass. Pours hazy dark orange, with a two inch sticky white head, that leaves loads of lacing.

Smell is tangerine, pine, grapefruit, earthy hops, and pineapple.

Taste follows the nose very well, very tropical and some nice bitter grapefruit in the finish. Really balanced well.

Body is medium, plenty of life, a little dry, and drinks very easy!

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Stella goblet. Bottled on 1/22/14 and drunk on 3/5/14.

A- pours an amber orange color with a white frothy head. Extravagant lacing all around the glass as I sip and a thin filmy head that stays on too of the beer.

S- smells of crystal malt and perhaps carapils. Galaxy hops are a strong presence but a heavy malt base is what makes this brew smell delicious! 8% abv? I can't tell. Nicely done.

T- tastes of bready malts and earthy hops with a slightly bitter, citrus flavor on the finish. A whole lot of flavor packed into this brew, it begins as a sweet succulent malty delight and finishes like a bitter ex girlfriend with a bite of dirty hops. Surprisingly the abv is not present whatsoever!

M- quite prickly on the tongue at first but then finishes off very slick. Leaves the tongue with a dryness for a few minutes, however leaving me salivating after those few minutes. Very drinkable for an 8% abv

O- a well done brew. Very earthy with a drinkable character despite the higher abv. Much unlike other IPAs, this is not ridiculously over hopped nor is it too "hot" in flavor. Overall a delicious brew!

Poured a orangish gold with decent head and lace patches and ring that stick to glass as I drink. Aroma is strongly hopped with piney and citric notes dominating and touches of caramel and bread malt. Fuller bodied with a decent malt backbone, the bitter hops (that are both slightly oily and sticky) are the star of this beer. Easy to drink, crips and dry finish, not complex but the hops are a treat and a touch of sweetness never hurt anyone. Pretty good hop forward beer that was enjoyable to relax with.

I felt compelled to write this review after the rating for Galactica seems to hover below 90 and in my humble opinion it does not do this beer justice.
Appearance is not a factor for me, so I'll skip right to the smell. Deliciously hoppy. Love Galaxy hops. Tropical fruit - mango, guava, perhaps a bit of peach in the background. Pine notes and a hint of resin.
The taste follows the bouquet quite well and leaves nothing to desire.
Mouthfeel is full and extremely satisfying.
Overall this has become my go-to double IPA as it is (thankfully) readily available from my local liquor store. The guys at Clown Shoes have knocked this one out of the park with an incredible balance that makes the beer oh so drinkable while hiding the alcohol really well. I would have it every day if my wife would only let me :)
The only thing I have noticed on this one is that the taste does fade a bit the older the beer gets (a true statement for most IPAs). If you can find it, make sure you stay within 8 weeks of the bottling date to get the most out of the experience.

Clown Shoes Galactica has a thin, off-white head, a hazy, bubbly, orange appearance, and a lacing sheen left behind. The aroma is the stereotypical (and, played-out) hop resin/oil/grape fruit rind smell that many parties are becoming so weary of, and the flavor is also the expected, run-of-the-mill grapefruit, white bread, and underwhelming bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium, oily, and slick, and Clown Shoes Galactica finishes mostly dry, easy drinking, and not terribly bitter. Alcohol is not detected with this one. Overall, it’s certainly worth trying, but don’t except anything new or exciting.

Pours two and half fingers of head on a hazy darker straw colored body.
