22 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium creamy tan head that retains well and leaves a little lacing.
The aroma is sweet roasted grains with some chocolate and cinnamon.
The flavor is sweet roasted chocolate malts with some spicy cinnamon and ginger. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, it's interesting with roast chocolate and some surprisingly spicy cinnamon and ginger.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice glass. Bottled on 07/25/13.
Appearance: Pours an oily black with a moderate amount of carbonation. About one finger of tan head which settles into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a decent amount of creamy lacing.
Smell: A roasty and fairly sweet chocolate malt forward aroma with a big presence of spices. Dark roasted barley malts with hints of dark chocolate, coffee, burnt toast, biscuit, grains, nuts, yeast, vanilla, and slight smoke. Huge mix of spices with a scent of ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, and slight nutmeg. Tea like scent from the spices. Sweet hints of molasses and some anise spice. Subtle dark fruit hints of raisin, plum, fig, and cherry. Subtle earthy hops in the background. A pretty good smell.
Taste: Like the aroma, a roasty and tea like stout taste with a big presence of chocolate and spices. Dark roasted barley malts with a good taste of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, burnt toast, vanilla, biscuit, yeast, grains, nuts, and smoke. Big mix of spices giving a Chai tea like taste. Notes of ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Also some anise spice. Sweet taste of burnt molasses. Dark fruit undertones of raisin, dark cherry, plum, dates, and fig. Light presence of earthy hops in the background.
Mouthfeel: Body is on the heavier side of medium. Carbonation is moderate. Feel is creamy, silky, spicy, and fairly smooth. Alcohol is hidden well.
Overall: A pretty interesting and good take on a Imperial Stout. Good balance of roasty malt notes and spices.

This thing is pitch black, thick and viscous. The head, light brown in color, rests strongly on top of the beer after reaching one finger. It leaves patches of lacing in good quantity.
Malts form a strong foundation in the nose, and the spicing is pretty good. It sort of blends together, but is still distinguishable for the most part. There's plenty of chocolate. The cardamom seems evident, and cinnamon flashes in and out but is strong when it's in. There's a note of something like black licorice. Some char builds up as it sits.
The taste follows pretty well. The spices make for a somewhat chai-like character, but at times are somewhat less than distinguishable on the whole. It's a tasty beer, with a nice milk chocolate flavor to it, though the char builds up to just a little harshness in the end of the sip as it warms.
The feel is a bit crisp, a little too much spritz for a big stout, but it's also robust and creamy.
