Poured from a bottle into a Duvel tulip. The pour is a nice dark burgundy, a little hazy, and sports about a finger of off-white head that quickly dissipates. On the nose I get red wine notes, some vinegar, and dark cherries.

Light body with a nicely balanced sweet and sour flavor. Lots of fruity sourness up front with flavors of cherries, lemons, and oranges. At mid-palate a slight hint of vanilla creeps in, sweetening the flavor and softening the feel in the mouth. A faint lactic sourness hits on the finish that seems to clash a little with the fruit and wine-like acidity.

This is one of my favorite styles and I was happy to find another example I had never tried before. Not a bad beer, but the lactic notes kind of spoil it for me. There are far better examples out there. (786 characters)

Pours a bubbly 2 finger head of tan/reddish head. Body is a murky dark red. Smells of balsamic vinegar, pickles, white vinegar, touch of alcohol. Tastes sweet and malty, pickle vinegar, tart fruit(cherries, raspberries). Medium dry finish, medium/full bodied, medium/high carbonation. Quite nice overall. I'd like to have a bit more complexities in the taste and maybe a bit more in the smell too. Well balanced and I think I'd easily pick this up again at $3.50 a 11.2oz bottle (478 characters)

The nose hints of wet horse blanket, light tartness, a blend of fresh and over ripe fruit. Pours reddish brown with a slight haze under a tan tinted finely bubbled 1” white foam cap. This is not as intensely sour on the palate as other Flemish Red Ales coming across a little sweeter and tamer with fruit, plums, cherries, and malt but no chocolate or roast and just a little tang with a sweet tart finish. It has a medium body and low medium carbonation. (457 characters)

Ruddy brown and red colors comingling in a tulip glass, almost no head. Mild tartness in the aroma, toffee.

Good sour taste, impressed, sometimes flanders come off a little weak in that department, especially when they're relatively cheap and available like this one. Really a good introduction that isn't watered down or so pase its lame. Cherry is the most fruit specific flavor that exists in it. Gritty acidic tannin like qualities to it. Mild woody flavor. Enough sweetness to it to approach balance. Ultimately finishes dry. (532 characters)

Got this on-tap from BSP in Atlanta.

Pours a clear dark ruby color with a one-finger white head that seems to have an orange tint. The head recedes into a thin layer of bubbles on top and a medium-sized ring around the glass. There's not much lacing.

Smells good. There's a good fruity aroma, lots of berries. There are also slight tart and earthy smells.

Tastes good as well. Lots of sweet fruit flavors up front that are followed by a good amount of sourness and a dry finish. There's a mild oak flavor that pokes through every now and then as well.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a good thickness to go with lively carbonation.

Drinkability is very good. I had no problem finishing this glass and would've gladly had another.

Overall I was impressed. I'm just now getting into sours, but I was a fan of the way none of the flavors were too overpowering in this beer. Certainly worth a shot. (896 characters)

It's true that I need more experience with the style, but I think I know the guidelines, at least.

It's sort of a thick and hazy beer, and the color isn't so much a red-brown as brown-red. A big, fluffy off-qhite head stands for a good, long time, barely diminishing below two fingers for quite a while and remaining even as the beer is being drunk. It sticks around like a creamy pillow before eventually settling to a layer that deposits patchy lacing that continues to spread out in legging as it goes.
Tart and sour on the nose, this is a solid standard-setter as I understand it. Just a touch of vinegar-like funk is unoffensive and deep. Light alcohol notes just sneak out.
Plenty tart and sour, it's short of puckering but plenty flavorful. It's got lots of it, giving the impression of underripe fruits that have somehow full developed their flavor. A creamy sort of vanilla sweetness underlies it and balances very nicely. An easy sipper that's not too sour but doesn't stray, I could have several of these easily.
The body is light a fairly robust red wine with a light fizz to it. It's got a solid depth to it and flows very nicely. It has a pretty easy finish. (1,173 characters)

11.2 oz bottle poured into a snifter. 15 April 17 on the bottle cap.

A: Pours a cloudy/hazy brownish ruby with a 1.5 finger off white head. Too hazy to see any carbonation. Leaves just a little lace.

S: Very funky and tart aroma. Vinegar in there as well. Can tell this one is gonna have a sour taste. Sweet malty aroma as well as oak.

T: Hits you at first with a funky tart taste that transforms into a sweet malty beer with an oak backing. There is plenty of a candied sugar. Ends with almost a wheat malt taste.

M: Fairly light body that feels heavier than it is. A good amount of carbonation. The sour aspect makes it fairly crisp.

Overall a beer I could really get into. Has the full fledge wild fermentation aspect along with a very realistic beer body. Perhaps a little sweet but that compliments the tartness. (826 characters)

a: dark cola reddish brown with a small head as expected its oak aged.

s: red wine, malty, no hops, some sugar sweetness comes out as black cheery like vapors hit he nose. having a bad sinus day, I can taste it fine just not much hitting me nose, but then again nothing new there.

T: ah very nice and complex beer here, sweet malt and back cheery fruit with some red wine tannins like, some vinegar like sharpness, AKA that sour bite. I do not get any lactic favors myself. Very balanced sweet to sour, Its grand cru indeed. Since its oak aged there are no hops I can detect.

M: smooth, low carbonation, semi thick on the back of the mouth.

D: easy as hell to drink this one, its basically a duchesse de bourgogne, with more sweetness, hence the higher ABV.
recommended if you love sours, its really a OLD bruin not sure why they keep added them to the red category, sure it s that on the bottle, but then contradicts itself in the native dutch go figure, who cares right? we drink more its good. (1,000 characters)

A--Dark, opaque brown with magenta hues. Minimal head. No lacing.

S--Dark overripe cherries, with an odd hint of grapes. Like Bubble Yum grape, not Bordeaux grape. Odd.

T--Like it smells, sadly, with a funky back end. There's a musty, attic-like quality on the finish. Not bad, really, but not great.

M--Merely average.

D--Okay. I mean, I wouldn't turn it down at a party, but this is far from the best I've had in this style. A bit of a disappointment.

Reddish with a little white head. Medium plus mouthfeel. Pleasant flemish red aroma. Easy drinking, to the last drop. Nice balance with a little vinegar and well done sweet offset.A moderate cherry. The mildest of oak. Tasty one.Understated carbonation. (253 characters)

6.5%ABV from a bottle.

A- Bright red body and white head... thick and fluffy to a thin layer. Leaves adequate lacing. When opening the bottle, a nice "pffft" sound.

S- Sour, funky melange of fruit.

T- Nice and sour... clear Brett and Lactose usage, mild caramel backbone to remind me that this is beer and not fruit cider. My wife enjoyed this beer and asked me if it was lambic (and she is usually a Lindeman's Framboise drinker.)

M- Strong carbonation, nice sourness, it could however use a tad bit more body and flavor aside from the Brett and Lactose notes.

O- Very good and reasonably priced all considering... 4.50 for the ~12? oz bottle.

The label reads "ingr: water, malt, caramalt, rice, hops, yeast"

Carefully poured to leave the lees behind it's a clear, ruby accented brown color beneath a pillowy head of tan. The head retention is good. It eventually falls to a wide collar that leaves short walls of lace with each sip.

The aroma suggests tart, dark, sugary fruit: cherries, raisins, figs. There's a bit of yeast to it, some malt, and a touch of mineral character as well.

The flavor follows the aroma, and it delivers a pleasant balance between gentle sweetness and light tartness. Along with the tartness and fruit there's some caramel maltiness, but it's not overly done, and it doesn't stick in the mouth. It's actually quite refreshing with the mild sharpness upfront, the light sweetness across the middle, and a bit of grassiness and mineral character in the oaky-dry finish.

In the mouth it's light bodied but with a dextinous edge; and a creamy-smooth fine-bubbled median carbonation - not much is needed as the tartness gives it character.

Overall it's basically flawless, and a pretty good example of the style. (1,161 characters)

Cloudy ruddy amber body, small, but fluffy off-white head. Laces quite well.

Vinous nose, with (mysteriously) seafood.

Taste is tart and magnificently balanced, sweetness to balance it out but not enough to cloy. Very faintly vegetal, possible beet.

Mouthfeel is nice, but not outstanding or unique in any way.

Quite a nice example of a Flemish sour... didn't know that aged sours existed, but this one is quite worthwhile, though there's no oak in the taste. (463 characters)

To the uninitiated, this can be a pretty funky beer. Having tried many Flanders Reds, however, I can say this is a nice, mellower than usual version of the style. In that sense it allows you to enjoy the flavors of crisp tang, mild oak, and light caramel barley instead of being overwhelmed by the sour funk.

Maybe it's just a sour ale for beginners, but I liked it. (367 characters)
