I tried a pint of this at the taphouse on a hot NC afternoon.

A shade darker than most amber ales in the look with an off white head that leaves slight lacing. Aromas are adequate malt qualities with some citrus hop character to go along with it.
Flavors are what you would expect: some caramel sweetness balanced with just enough hops. Carbonation is light with high attenuation leading to a light mouthfeel. This can certainly be improved upon but this beer is alright nonetheless.

When people try Red ales, majority look for a higher level of hop. It's sort of that West Coast beer attitude. This goes the other way, more towards the British style. The flavors were crazy good. Think of a donut in your mouth with a hurricane of hop flavor flowing around it. The taste continues to last for a long time. This beer is made for a kick back and relax attitude after a day of work.

On tap at the brewery

Pours a cloudy reddish amber with a small amount of head that doesn't stick around. Smells predominately of malts. Taste is a little unbalanced, a strong malt character, but there doesn't seem to be enough hops coming through to balance it out; leaves me with mixed impressions. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and well carbonated. As a flagship beer from the new guys, I'm not impressed, but some of their other beers make up for that.

A pint at the Saucer in Raleigh.

Amber color, fair to poor head retention, little lace. Aroma smacks of malt and fruit candy. Taste is similar. Some malt in the front, a bit of fruitiness, some bitterness on the back, but basically goes nowhere. The middle to end are surprisingly unsurprising, flat. Medium body, carbonation is fitting to style.

Served in a standard pint glass at Tyler's Tap room in Apex, NC.

Crystal clear amber color with relatively thin white head that dissipated fairly quickly. Moderate lacing.

Aromas were...average. There were some notes of moderate malt and some light hopping, but nothing that stands out as unique. Nothing bad here, just nothing great.

Flavors were pleasant, light and mostly crisp. Carbonation seemed matched well to the caramel malt and balanced hops. Good. This brew is easy to drink and was a great thirst quencher. My overall impression was that this was a decent beer and it was enjoyable, but nothing great. Yet.

Well, I hate that I didn't like this one. I am always pulling for the local guys but this was just a miss. Good appearance but it ended there. Really didn't get much of a taste, other than an almost watered down, dank, frat house keg beer. I wasn't alone on this one, 2 friends who had come at my recommendation thought the same thing.

On-tap at the brewery's on-site taproom during their grand opening poured into a Roth Brewing pint glass a crisp bubbly amber with almost no head that quickly faded to nothing. Aroma was just about the balance you'd expect for the style, nice and fragrant. The taste was a nice blend of sweet malts showing both fruit and caramel features in front of a nice Earthy hop backbone. The beer was light, crisp, and quite sessionable. This is certainly a respectable first brew from a new brewery, one I would definitely have again.

Update: 4/2/11
After having had this beer several times since my initial review, I decided an update to my review was needed. On-tap at Flying Saucer served in a standard pint glass a crisp amber with a thin diminishing head. Aroma is just a slight amount of sweet malts and a trace of hoos. The taste is decent blend of sweet malts and a mild hops backbone that leaves a decent bitter finish. The beer is light bodied with mild carbonation. This particular pint was better than the last several I've had, but still does not come close to the pint I had on their opening day.
