Poured out more of a brown color than black. Lots of carbonation, big head that disappears into the outer realms mad quick. Aroma was barely coffee, more of the espresso that I can't pick up as much olefactory wise and some mustiness to it, from where, I couldn't imagine.

Average amount of roastiness, but the malt bill feels like I could have handled a little more. Burnt acidic and ashy qualities to it that makes you wish there was a little more barley to it to absorb some of this. It really came across like a lot more burnt malt than it did coffee or espresso. Once you get a little desensitized to the acrid aspect of the beer, the mouthfeel does mellow out a little and you can enjoy the beer even more. But still lacking enough coffee and chocolate to fit my palate's desires. Had a little bit of expectations with this one, after digging Hoppy Boy in previous years. The bitterness is just a tad too high for what other flavors are there (or aren't there as much as I would have liked is a better way to put it). Needs more chocolate and coffee.

a very good stout, but maybe a little light in body for the style. dark brown in color with a nice luster to it and a tall but fading tan colored head that leaves some patchy lace as it fades. the nose here is all coffee, rich and almost taking on a berry component, while the black barley and chocolate malt to just enough to remind me this is beer. the flavor too is coffee heavy, with a distance bitterness and mild acidity. earthy and a little smoky, with enough bitter malt to back it up without overcrowding its contribution. one of the more coffee forward beers I've had, but the acidity is off putting when it warms, although the alcohol remains well hidden. a fun take on a coffee beer, with espresso added directly, but this could be cleaned up a little bit and turned into a real gem. more body would be a nice place to start, this feels a bit thin for all the earthy bitterness going on the the flavor. carbonation is there though puffing it up. i would buy this again.

APPEARANCE: A quarter-inch brown head sits on top of a jet black beer. The head retention is so-so and lacing is spotty.

SMELL: Big, roasty and bitter smell. Big Shot is a good name for this Espresso beer…this is huge on the coffee aromas. A little touch of chocolate and a tiny hint of citrus are also detectable in this one.

TASTE: Again, huge espresso flavor - roasted malt, coffee, bitterness along with (again) a touch of citrus and bitter, dark chocolate. As it warms the dark chocolate really starts to come out in quite a pleasant way. It provides a touch of sweetness, but adds to the bitterness as well.

MOUTHFEEL: The Big Shot is dry through and through. The mouthfeel is big, but the dry bitterness balances it out a bit.

OVERALL: This is a pretty solid stout from Twisted Pine. If you like coffee and dark chocolate this is an excellent choice.

A- poured a deep black with a creamy tan head. Moderate head retention and some lacing

S- big roast malt and coffee notes dominate

T- follows closely with the characteristics of the aroma with chocolate malt and coffee. Not quite as strong flavored as the aroma would indicate

M- not as thick as others in this style and a little watery

O- a very good-but-not-quite-great coffee stout.

Pour black with a mocha head. Aroma is some nice creamy espresso and some chocolate. Flavor is similar but not as tuned in as aroma. A creamy, medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, not the greatest coffee stout by any means, but I enjoyed it. Probably the best Twisted Pine beer (of the few) I have yet to try.
