Nice black complexion gave way to a powerful stout and firm head that fluttered away rather quickly.

The aroma was dank, musty and reminded me of the scent from an old dusty home. There was some prune and date aroma near the back but overall it was rather poor.

This is a beer better served warm as it held little taste at cold temperatures. Warmer it opened to a dry chocolate malt, with some dark fruits and a stripe of caramel sweetness.

This had a super light and easy smoothness with little to no carbonated sensation.

I have no idea why the scent didn't change as it got warmer as the taste certainly did. If it had the score could have been higher.

Appearance - For the style, the color is spot on, but the head is a bit light.
Smell - There is a lack of smell. There is a hint of roast, but it is even very light.
Taste - There is some slight bitterness and its slightly roasty and malty. A tad boozy, but underwhelming.
Mouthfeel - The feel is a bit light, but ok.
Overall - Nothing is very "imperial" about this beer.

Jet-black body topped with a light tan head. Slightly tangy aroma mixed with roasted grains and mint-chocolate notes. Rich chocolate flavors; good bitterness throughout the taste; charred grains; nice alcohol warmth. Medium bodied, semi-sweet with a dry finish.

A deep, dark, robust dark beer with corresponding tastes and smells. Bitterness and alcohol notes slightly trump the malt sweetness, yet everything seems to fit well together based on the style. This beer reminds me like a lot of the really good northern European dark beers: bold and complex. Well worth taking a plunge into the depths...

Got a bomber of this from codysjb a few days back. Thanks heaps for flying this stuff over man. Much appreciated.

From a bomber into a snifter
Timberline Series

APPEARANCE: A dark brown pour produces a one finger, medium looking, lightly fizzy dark tan or brown head with decent retention. Head fades to half with and ring. Black body and lower levels of carbonation evident. A ring remains and some dots fall after every sip.

SMELL: Bolder nose of dark malts, caramel malts, dark chocolate, as well as some light licorice and cream. Cocoa notes as well. Good stuff.

TASTE: Dark malts, caramel and toffee sweetness up front, with some licorice notes and dark, pure, bitter chocolate at the swallow. Sweet dark malts, pure, bitter chocolate, light coffee and licorice flavors linger nicely. Lots of dark, bitter chocolate sit on the palate. Nice stuff.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes slightly stick. Medium weight. Creamy and heavy enough, though more weight is needed for top marks,

OVERALL: Really nice stuff for sure. Could be a little heavier on the palate, but the flavor is right on the money. With lots of malty goodness up front and a huge, persistent, bitter chocolate finish, this is definitely an enjoyale beer. Recommended for sure. Thanks again for the beers codysjb!
