I saw the 120ibu and decided to let this sit a bit before opening it, and i think right now it is doing great with the time, but well get to that.

Translucent dark amber with a nice frothy cap on top, looks robust as it fades out.
The aroma is pretty rich, caramel is a prominent figure, the hops i assume have to have faded as i cant find much but some faint citrus to lend some brightness.
This is doing well right now. For being 9% there is a whisper of alcohol that brings some balance to a rich caramel, oh there is some hops on the finish that are floral and citrus bright, i notice those now. Really though, right now through another 4 months i think is the window for this one, maybe longer, good stuff.

Maybe ill put an ISO of FT Dreadnaught ISO this up and get more bottles, i like it enough that id trade for more, no doubt.

Picked up a bottle of this one late Saturday afternoon at the brewery. Cracked it open last night. Poured a dark reddish amber color with a nice tan head. Big hoppy aromas, pine, earth and caramel. On the palate, this one was medium bodied and went down entirely too easy for 9%. Flavors of earthy hops and caramel, with some alcohol late.

Appearance: A nice bubble show and the cloudy ice tea colored liquid winds up topped by three fingers of foam; webs of lace form as the liquid is consumed

Smell: Even after three years, this is still quite hoppy, with a piney aroma dominating the caramel malt

Taste: Caramel and spice cake tones lay the backbone but the piney hops overwhelm them as the beer grows increasingly bitter; some oxidation is detected, particularly in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; a bit thin for the style

Overall: Still quite hoppy, but it is too bad that the malt base doesn't have enough complexity to enhance the overall flavor profile

Thanks, JMBSH, for the opportunity

Thanks to my buddy n8dietz for picking this bottle up for me last year.

Great nutty, ruby, amber color. Quick tan head. The coloring is pretty dark, I can't make out bubbling one way or the other.

Nutty, biscuity, pine tar and orange peel citric aroma. Hopps make up most of the aroma. But there is still some showtime for a good malt bill and just a hint of alcohol. Smells like a hoppy sipper.

Theres a chewiness to the beer right from teh start. Then some nutty and biscuity malt sweetness. This then gets taken over by a dominating hop resin, pine tree sap, bitting into an orange peel. Fueled even further by a high abv%. This beer is bitter mainly because of the hops, but the alcohol helps things out.
This for a bitter hophead, barleywine fan. I'm glad I got to try this beer that's unavailable in IL, but I probably won't buy again for myself.

I was a little hesitant to buy this because it was $9 but it turned out to be pretty good. Smells super hoppy and bitter at first. Color is amber-red. Smell is caramel, hops, sugar. Taste is strong bitter hops, caramel, hops, bitter, oh yeah its real bitter. This reminds me of bigfoot a little. Worth it.

22oz Bommer into a stemmed teardrop glass.

A: A dark copper brown with a slim finger of butterscotch colored head shrinks to a thin cap. Very fine carbonation makes up the head that leaves a dotted bit of lacing.

S: A touch of lemony citrus mixed with some coffee or dark caramel notes

T: The initial hop blast is mellowed by a bit of woody greenness, not grassy, quite pleasant. Finishing with the darker roasted coffee flavor and trailing off with a touch of heat filled hop flower.

M: A little more carbonation would be nice, but overall mouthfeel is nice.

Overall a very nice beer, I look forward to seeing how this ages.

[Suggested Glassware: Snifter]

The pour was a clear dark reddish amber with an average (1-2 finger) tan creamy head that diminished down to a large puddled film and small collar with excellent sticky sheets of lacing.

The aroma was of a sweet caramel malt, floral hops and a doughy yeast with notes of toffee, citrus (orange), dark fruit (figs and dates), candi sugar and a mild alcohol presence.

The taste was extremely malty with a slight caramel sweetness and a strong dark fruit presence from the start, and then became decently hoppy with a nice sweet toffee presence and a light citrus peel bitterness towards the finish. The flavor hung around for a very long time proceeding the swallow, with a bitter sweet citrus peel taste lingering on along with an slow creeping alcohol warming sensation.

Mouthfeel was almost medium in body with a nice dry texture and a soft mellow carbonation.

Overall this was a very tasty Barleywine: even though I did find to be pretty basic for the style, it did posses an nice hoppy bite. I did however expect a much bitterer flavor with an IBU of 120...

Figured it was about time to crack this one open.

A - Pours a nutty brown, with some nice amber hues. Thick, two-finger, khaki colored head becomes a 1/4" cap supplying some good lacing.

S - Loads of caramel. Still get a decent amount of the hops. Earthy and floral with a touch of pine. Nothing overwhelming in the nose.

T/M - This tastes great! Lots of sweet caramel as expected, but that hops presence slips right in and balances this almost perfectly. Really crisp carbonation fits this brew. Seems nowhere near 9%. I kind of want to chug it, that's how well this is drinking.

O - Just plain delicious! Went in to this just expecting a pretty average Barleywine. Kind of bummed, as I don't think I can find any of this sitting around anywhere.
