I've been fortunate enough to have this great APA on tap at Uber Tap Room where I tend bar. A freshly tapped barrel on freshly cleaned lines is undoubtedly the best way to drink this beer. It seems to lose some of the citrusy hop aroma from a bottle.

Aroma: grapefruit citrus followed by a balanced, clean and sweet clementine aroma. A slight tingle in the nostrils finishes the scent from the high APV.

Appearance: Black Husky does not skimp on the ingredients. The beer pours a thick frothy off white head that laces the sides of the glass and retains quite well. It both appears and tastes like Black Husky used primarily light roasted malt. A bit of medium roast deepens the color to a light golden caramel.

Taste: Citrusy, Fruity, and bold. When compared to another Wisconsin APA staple like New Glarus's Moon Man, this beer is very similar, but much bolder. The hops and malt are in perfect balance, and the palate is practically unscathed considering the strength and hoppiness of the beer.

The beer glows a murky dark orange when poured into a .5l dimpled stein. It has an impressively lasting head of foam, with a creamy surface texture and sheets of lace in the glass.

Grapefruit, candied orange peel, and pine needle scents. Floral, fruity, and very pungent.

Moderately bitter hop character, green resiny and herbal, finishes pretty dry. Medium bodied with a little heft to it. Easy drinking and sessionable for sure, plenty of hops that give an IPA impression. Fresh and teeming with bitter PacNW hops...

Thanks Jayme for the Black Husky assortment!

Poured from a bomber into a Bell's tulip. The pour is very clear with a light copper color. It sports 2 fingers of dense off-white head with some pretty good retention. Fairly faint, flowery nose with notes of cedar and grapefruit.

Medium-light bodied beer with moderate carbonation. There are some toasty notes up front and a substantial, sweet malt backbone. The hops are primarily citrusy with just a hint of cedary, almost minty, spice. The breadiness up front and citrusy hops combine to give a toast and marmalade flavor that is neither too sweet nor too pithy. I could almost swear there is a woodiness or rye-like flavor lurking in there as well. I believe I also detect some cascade- or amarillo-like flavors. It provides a nice counter to the grapefruit. This is strong for the style, but I detect no booziness at all. It's very drinkable.

This is a hoppy beer that seems much milder than it really is. Where the hops of SNPA or FFF Alpha King can hit you like a grassy fist, this one seems subdued, but the hops are definitely there. They sort of wrap themselves in an herbal cloak and sneak in on the heels of the biscuity malt, then open up and treat you to all sorts of interesting flavors; some fruity, some vegetative, some piney. All good.

poured 22oz bottle into snifter

A - A dark caramel colored orange with a 1.5 finger white head. Fades into a thin ring and has some lacing.

S - A nice hit of pungent hops consisting of citrus, floral, and pine. I pick up a good amount of grapefruit and ripe orange. There is also a nice bitter pine scent. Both of these are balanced by the caramel malts and light sweetness.

T - Man are the hops intense and fresh. It packs a nice citrus, with the grapefruit and orange coming through. There is also a floral element, and bitter pine. These flavors are all balanced out by the rich, sweet caramel malts. This is so good. If you have a chance to try it, you are a fool not to.

M - Very nice carbonation from the bottle. It has a medium body, with a slick oily feel. The citrus bitter finish is fantastic.

O - Okay, I am really impressed by this. Not sure why this isn't an IPA, but whatever it is it is packed with intense flavor. The hops seem very fresh and bountiful, but there is a very nice balance with the caramel sweetness. I would buy this if it was available more widely. Very please to have tried it. Great work!
