Dark black pour with a tan head that provides some lacing going down

Smell is coffee/chocolatish roasted malts. some dark fruits. some booze

Taste is roasted malts again, dark, dark chocolate, roasted bitterness on the finish. Maybe some fruit on the start, not sure what. Stout like flavoring, am i drinking a pannepot?! Tastes bigger than 7%.

Its a great beer, one of my favorites to try lately.

Nice belgian porter os a deep brown - almost black - color and a browny foam with some medium bubbles.
Smell and taste are the usual of porters... roasted malts, some coffe, some tones of bread and grains and some dark chocolates (the highlight ons this one). Unfortunately the level of bitterness is a bit low.
Body is nice and balanecs the 7.0 % of ABV, carbonation is high and some times gives an acid tone on the taste.

As far as porters go, this one ain't bad. It pours almost completely opaque with a brown head that lasts long. The smell is dominated by smoke, and so is the taste - so much so that I can't give it many points for complexity. However, it finishes bitter and dry, which is always a good thing. Overall, not a bad porter.

Beer bottle (33 cl.) purchased from Bières & Chopes, and tasted in 2014.

Appearance : black color with tan foamy head (w lacing).
Smell : roasted and coffee aromas.
Taste & mouthfeel : malt, chocolate and wood flavors, leading to a dry roasted finish.
Overall : a nice beer in the English style Porter.

Viven's porter is a black malt heavy, stout-like porter that features significant burnt toast flavor and phenolics from the yeast used. The aroma is complex, though too mild, while the flavor is overwhelmed by the burned toast and phenolics. This is a fairly simple beer that I've replicated by accident on my own for a fraction of the cost, should I ever want this flavor combination again. Not one I'd return to again.

Pours a 1.5cm tall head of dark beige to light tan colored foam, made up of small-sized bubbles, yielding a frothy appearance. Retention is slightly above average, the foam lasting a bit over one minute, fading to a thick ring around the perimeter of the glass and a large, thin island atop the body of the beer. Lacing is excellent, with a thick wash around the entirety of the inner glass, puncuated with occasional dots and lines. Body is a very dark brown to black color, with light bringing out no change. Beer's body is opaque, so carbonation only visible along edges of the glass, where it appears numerous and quite active.

Aroma is rather mild, of light charred toast, cocoa, a bit of Belgian yeast phenolics, and old coffee beans.

Overall flavor is of light base malt sweetness with charred toast and yeast phenolics being most predominant, with some cocoa and old coffee in the background throughout. Front of palate tastes light base malt sweetness with some charred toast and vanilla. Mid-palate experiences moderate yeast phenolics, charred toast with hints of cocoa and old coffee beans, and light base malt sweetness. Back of palate continues with flavors of light base malt sweetness, notable charred toast and yeast phenolics, and hints of cocoa, coffee beans, and vanilla. Aftertaste of yeast phenolics, light burnt toast, faint coffee beans and vanilla.

Beer is medium-bodied, with carbonation of medium intensity, resulting in a mouthfeel that is mostly foamy (9/10) and slightly smooth (1/10). This is appropriate for a 7% ABV porter, rendering is soft and moderately sippable. Closes semi-dry, with medium to medium-high stickiness lingering on the palate and lips.

Bought at my local store.
Eager to try this as there's not many porters available here.
Very dark brown, with beige head.
Smell of caramel and raisins. Roasted nuts and coffee.
Taste is a lot of roasted grains. Also ash.
But it's very balanced still. It's got sweet and bitter. Maybe it could be more complex, but the flavour is good, and the alcohol is well covered.
Overall it's a good drinkable porter, from what i can judge.

A fairly fresh bottle poured very dark, tobacco brown rather than black. Big tan rocky head with big bubbles. Coffee, toffee, yeasty smells, some cherry, some basement, but overall restrained. Chicory coffee flavor, more toffee, toast, a bit of something herbaceous, balanced nicely with a bitter through-line. Quite a leggy-feeling beer but nice effervescence to liven up the mouth, coating but not cloying. A nicely belged example of the substyle (not English porter but the Belgian take on it).
