Hand pumped at Brasserie 4:20.
Appearance: Pours a medium to deep amber orange, quite clear, with a smaller head of barely off white, medium sized bubbles. It lingers quite well but doesn't really lace at all.
Aroma: It smells sour, with red wine and vinegar notes, but not too strong. Fruit is present, some green apple and darker cherry character.
Taste: Follows the nose, but perhaps a bit less sour. The vinegar and red wine acidity are decently toned down, and the cherry and apple flavors come through a bit more. The result is a nice, crisp balance of fruit and sour characters. The malt profile doesn't really push any flavors, but definitely supports the other flavors, it's balanced and not overwhelming. The alcohol is extremely well hidden. The finish is decently dry and it's extremely difficult to find any trace of alcohol in there.
Mouthfeel: This was actually less full than I'd thought it would be. I'd say it's a medium to medium light, even. Not watery but just thinner than expected. The carbonation is fairly low, and the mouthfeel comes mostly from the mouth puckering characteristics.
Overall: This is an extremely quaffable, refreshing, and sneaky sour ale. The flavors are well balanced, while not overly complex, and it hides its ABV very well. I'd tip back a few more of these if I didn't think I might then tip back in my chair!
