A: Hazy orange hued straw color with ample frothy white head, that seems to stick. Lots of visible carbonation. Lacing is minimal.

S: Typical Hof Ten Dormaal aroma. Sweet fruit, candi sugar, light green apple aroma.

T&M: Highly carbonated, crisp and clean dry finish. Slight alcohol presence, sweet tropical fruit, caramel malt. Slight spicy heat on the finish, possibly from the chicory root? or perhaps some red peppercorns.

O: A lot going on with this beer, and I'm not sure I can actually describe everything I'm tasting and smelling. This is definitely on the malty side, sweet, peppery, some spice. Alcohol is present but barely noticeable. Very nice.

Grabbed a bottle in the Beer Pantry in Grand Central Terminal, NYC. Poured into a pint glass.

Pours cloudy copper, pale colored. Full glass of white foam. Full wheaty smell. Citrus too. Sour taste followed by wheat with a buried spice - is that the chicory I am reading about? Locorice/anise taste afterwards for sure. Nice blend, interesting mixture.

An attractive pour with a luminously copper liquid traced by thin lines of carbonation up to a persistent, snowy head. Toasted fennel-y smell, subtle liquorish, some strawberry and wet hay, pleasant but not strong aromas. Really good amber ale flavor, which isn't usually my fave. Roasty and toasty but still caramel rather than toffee, with a vegetal sweetness, I chalk it up to the chicory indeed, with a subtle hop holding things up. Good mouthfeel, substantive but still more-ish, like a mea. After that, it accompanied one very nicely -- a Belgian endive gratin.

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a cloudy light golden amber. Cork popped out of the bottle when the cage was released. Massive white head dissipated over a few minutes to a half finger steady head and light lacing. Aroma of sweet malt, yeast and a grassy element that must be the chicory. Flavor is a nice strong sweet bready malt, light wheat, light fruit, chicory; finishes very pleasantly with spicy sweet malt and fruit. I liked the flavor combination in this very much. It's on the sweet side, and that worked quite well for me. Medium bodied and mouth feel.

A: The beer is hazy pale yellow in color. It poured with a two finger high bright white head that has good retention properties and never completely faded away.
S: There are pleasant aromas of wheat, chicory and fruity yeast in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of wheat and pale malts; there are some peppery spices from the yeast and notes of chicory.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate with a high amount of carbonation. The finish is very dry.
O: This beer is easy to drink compared to other beers in the style and has its alcohol well hidden. I really enjoyed the aroma and taste of this beer.

375ml Bottle. Tulip glass. Pale golden color. Cloudy. White crown with fairly well retention. Lacing spots. Bready, floral notes, strawberry hints to the nose. Crisp ufront then spicy sweet malt flavors. Low bitterness. Subtle buttery sensation in the middle. Medium body, medium carbonation. Dry malty ,quite bitter, finish. ABV is well hidden & sourness is not found. Drinkability is a little fat. Refreshing when served at a low temperature.

Snagged a bottle for 2 bucks from the House of 1,000 beers best by "Feb 2013"

A - Very carbonated even for around a year old. A 1/2 inch of head forms that never truly settles. Even now it's a 1/4 inch of sticky white head atop of a hazy amber brown.

S - Has some good farmhouse funk, some chicory bark. Fruity yeasts but mild at best.

T - Fizzy like champagne mostly yeasts, some bread and smoked chicory dominate. Not bad.

M - Kind of hard to drink since it's so carbonated. Hides the ABV well. Taste is smooth.

Overall totally worth 2 bucks since I was worried with a green bottle it was skunked. Not sure how old this is most discounted beers were 1+ years old but this one held up nicely. I have a Winter 2011 to crack next...

A: Pours a hazy pale yellow with a finger and a half tall off white head that reduces but has good retention. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Aromas of fruity yeast with hints of pepper and spices. The aroma is pretty light and pleasant, not intense.

T: Flavors are wheat and pale malts with some hints of pepper and spices. There is also a bitterness that I would have to attribute to the chicory.

M: Medium bodied with high amounts of carbonation and dry.

O: No alcohol was noticeable in either the aroma or the taste. Very interesting flavors and smells with this beer though I'm going to have to attribute that to the Belgian chicory which is not something I am real familiar with. I would definitely enjoy this beer again if I ever found it - the only place I saw it in my area is already sold out.

First had: on tap at Teresa's, Wayne, PA

Labeled as a saison on the beer list.

Served on tap in a tulip glass, this beer poured a golden orange color, impenetrably cloudy, with a nice cap of white head that left some sticky lacing. Yeast and mild funk in the aroma, fresh fruit and honey. Taste was ardently fruity up front, sweet with honey, with a good balance of peppery spice, Belgian yeast, and a subdued estery funk. Medium mouthfeel, a little chewiness to it, moderate carbonation contributes to a crisper finish. Very nice overall. Glad I got to have this on tap instead of a cursed green bottle.

A: It pours a hazy golder color with a finger and a half of creamy white head. The lacing was decent.

S: Pretty typical belgian funkiness. Spicy and sweet. The chickory is an interesting twist.

T: Wheat and creamy. Just a touch of spice and funk.

M: Fairly light.

O: This beer is pretty darn smooth. Love the chickory undertones with the belgian funk. Sweet, but not overpowering. Just an extremely drinkable beer. The alcohol is not noticable in the least. So smooth.

Imbibed at The Hopleaf in Chicago. Note: this beer was incorrectly listed as 'Wit Gold' on the taplist.

Appearance -- Honey-amber hued with golden highlights and a slim sudsy white head. Handsome.

Smell -- Lily-of-the-valleys, honey malt, tart yeastiness, melon rind, and clean chicory flavor. Very mellow and smooth.

Taste -- Honey malt, an abundance of gentle floral hops, tart yeast, clove, and chicory bitterness. Toward the finish peppery hops and earthy-bordering-on-resinous bitterness make themselves known. Finish is floral sweetness and tart yeast.

Mouthfeel -- Medium-bodied with ample prickly carbonation. It's okay, albeit a bit heavy.

Overall -- This beer is definitely peculiar, though not in a bad way. The chicory, I think, is what throws me off. Floral and sweet perfume character meets tart yeast and chicory vegetal bitterness in a unique way. Very complex, it keeps one engaged and urges the drinker to pinpoint the unique flavor sub-components. If only to try it once, I recommend it.
