Served in a shaker pint. Can't beat a $4 pint pour of an imperial stout!
This Gingerbread man was delivered to me with a half - inch of mocha - hued foam. It dies after the first sip, no noticeable lacing. A black body with slivers of ruby highlights in the glass.
Some cinnamon and nutmeg are appreciable on the nose. The malt is Graham crackery sweet with just a kiss of ginger. The scents are far too subtle. If they were bigger, this beer would be so much more decadent.
An herbal and sweet spicing butts up against a roasty, slightly charred malt. The aspirin - like bitterness in the finish does not fit this stout at all. The spicing is again, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. However, that earthy herbalness is out of place. Dial back the bitter, crank up the sweet malt or give it some more heat!
Slick and a nice medium body, good heft. Sticks to the cheeks well, and is ever so slightly dry thanks to the building bitterness.
This intriguing imperial stout missed the mark due to balance issues. The scents are fine, and help the beer, but they are not strong enough. The palate is far too roasty/hoppy to fit with the spiced up flavors. The beer is a nice experiment, just needs to be sweeter, less intense on the hoppiness and roasted malts.
