Too dark, though not by much. I liked the flavor, though it could have been more malt and less carbonation. The aroma though was weak. I'm excited to see the product though, and I will be buying more of it this summer. The format is great, 12 oz cans and six packs are very freindly to the fire pit.

Very dark amber, almost brown, with just over one finger of head that had good retention before settling to a thin cap. A little bit of lacing is left down the glass. Aroma is not very strong, but what I can smell, I like. A combination of floral hops and caramel malt. Pleasant enough flavor. Has a German malt character with some sweet fruity hints. A touch of floral hops to round things out. Not a big beer so it is light drinking, not too bitter or sweet. Probably could knock a few of these back without a problem.

Serving type: 12-ounce cans. No freshness date.
Appearance: Poured into a pilsner glass. The color is deep caramel brown. A half-finger of light, off-white foam disappeared almost instantly, leaving behind a skim and thin ring around the edge.
Smell: Hairspray, or faint nail polish, is most noticeable at first. (It is nowhere near as strong as it is in some Schell beers, though.) Underneath are toasted malts, caramel, and a little toffee. There are hints of dark fruit esters hanging around in the background, and there is a surprise dusting of cinnamon. As it warms it becomes very bready. It kind of oscillates between a salon and a school lunch cinnamon roll.
Taste: The first couple sips are an awkward fusion of the hairspray (I really have no clue what that would impart that; floral hops?), bready malts, and caramel. As the beer warms, the mix becomes much more pleasing and tasty. Hairspray continues to dominate, though.
Drinkability: This is the last Dos Pistolas I will drink from a glass. The rest will be straight from the can, baby!

Very characteristic dark brown color, clear, with amber hues. Wispy, off white foam creates a thin head that leaves a fine ring and a few suds behind. Not a strong aroma, but I do get some faint sweetness from the malt, very clean with a touch of nutty caramel. Not bad.
Doughy, caramel malt taste throughout. It has a hint of roast and a mild bitter finish. The beer has a light thickness, though the carbonation is somewhat fine but works. I'm surprised there is actually a degree of robustness here which I did not expect. Alcohol is well hidden though.
Beating the Mexicans at their own game, Great River has made a decent dark beer. Good balance, with rich enough flavor for a session brew, it could be a bit more refined but overall it works. You could drink this with a lime but I'm glad I didn't. Worth a try while it's fresh.
