On tap at Buffalo Wild Wings the other day.

The beer pours a fairly dark, copper amber color with fairly decent head retention and lacing. The nose is all sweet and malty, and I pick up considerable cherry and baked apple. The beer was every bit as sweet and malty on the palate, with some noticeable heat in the finish. Frankly, I found the noticeable alcohol and excessive sweetness a bit much, though otherwise this beer wasn't too bad. Mouthfeel was medium bodied, with a fairly long, sweet and malty finish.

Mehhh... the pickings were slim at the Owings Mills BWW, which is why I decided to give this a try. Pretty sure I won't be ordering it again...

Out of a bottle this beer was a rich, hazy garnet color with one finger of khaki-colored head. The lacing was in sliding patches off of the collar of retained foam that stubbornly clung to my glass. The aroma was of caramel malt, nuts, hints of toffee and dried cherries, along with light notes of chocolate malt. The flavors were good, starting at first like a rich amber beer or an Irish Red but then becoming more bock-like towards the finish. I tasted the caramel malt up front immediately but then I tasted a distinct note of toffee followed by nuts, caramelized sugars, a hint of toasted malt as well as some leather and then a hoppy bitterness on the finish. A nice ‘flavor-arc’ starting in one spectrum and ending in another. The mouthfeel was frothy but smooth, the body medium/full and the carbonation perfect. Distinct and unique to Maryland this beer is worth trying if you can find it.
