On tap at Belmont Station during Fringe Fest OBF week.

Dark brown/almost black opaque body, no visible carbonation. One finger light tan head, quick dissipation with minimal lacing. Some roasted malts in the nose, balanced with a bit of sweetness and floral hops. The taste is chocolate and coffee with some sweet malts, but not a lot of hoppiness. Mouthfeel is pretty thin, some effervescence leading to a fairly dry finish. Drinkability *may* be pretty good, but not sure about the style, thought I would assert this isn't an American Brown Ale. John's suggestion of a sweet stout makes more sense. A bit too sweet for my taste.

appearance - pours a dark brown/black, light white head, not much lacing

smell - roasted malts, some chocolate/coffee notes

taste - dominant roasted malts, some coffee notes, slightly bitter finish

mouthfeel - pretty darn light and probably the biggest downfall of the beer, heavy carbonation...too much

drinkability - the beer was fine, not very complex, too much carbonation and not enough body, could use some evolution

Served on tap into a nonic glass.

A- Poured black with off-white soapy head that left quite a bit of splashy lace.

S- Pretty big roasted malt and dark fruit notes, some roasted coffee notes.

T- Pretty dark fruit forward for a stout with lots of roasted malt and some coffee notes. Not really getting any chocolate notes.

M- Medium body, pretty smooth, soft carbonation, and mostly dry finish.

O- A pretty solid stout from Boneyard, not quite as bold as I what I have come to expect from Boneyard.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Central Waters snifter. Thanks to mrmarmot for hauling this one back from Idaho Falls.

A: Pours a deep dark brown color. Aggressive pour leads to a thin half finger head that disappears quickly. Ring around the top of the beer sticks for the length of the serving. No lacing.

S: Pretty simple nose, toasted chocolate malts, smoke (like a rauchbier), cocoa and a really nice hop profile round out a nice, basic aroma.

T: Follows the nose, hoppy black ale with nice toasted malts and a touch of smoke.

M: Nice feel, well carbonated, nice crisp finish.

O: A pretty solid beer, easy drinker. Well worth seeking out!

On Tap at the BeerMongers.... here in PDX... a keg traveled!

- Rich dark brown... can barely see through the edges... light mocha to light brown head... light lacing....

- Rich grain, oats... roasty... pine hops, w/ a touch of floral notes.... overall smells balanced.

- Smooth malty grain, rich and lightly sweet... little bready.. roasted and nutty.... hops are present to balance this one out... light citrus and pine...

- Medium bodied... not at all chewy or sticky....

- little filling, robust, and quite drinkable... a meal in a bomber! Worth the have, and certainly fantastic for a new brewery!

A: Poured dark brown with a small khaki colored cap, leaving minimal lacing as I drank

S: Nice roastiness with coffee, some cocoa and a blend of light but noticable flowers and pine

T: Nice roastiness upfront with coffee, cocoa, a it dry yet creamy. SOme pine resin can be detected

M: Medium bodies, dry and nice not so bitter finish but the body was a just a wee thin I felt

O: Tasty, good rep for the style and another Boneyard score.

I had this on-tap in a straight-sided glass at Special Brews in Lynnwood, WA.

Appearance: totally black with a one-finger head of creamy tan foam. Quite attractive.

Smell: light roast malt aroma; quite low in intensity. Well-composed but a bit too subtle.

Taste: classic ashy roast-barley character, plus a very light-intensity dark-color fruitiness toward the end of the palate. Very clean and stylistically accurate; I like it.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and a decent creaminess.

Overall: I could quaff quite a bit of this stuff. It's not precisely perfect, but it's pretty darn good.

The brewery calls this a "Black Ale", I listed it here as it seems to the closest category. It's actually closest to a Schwarzbier, except for being an Ale instead of a lager.

The beer poured a translucent black with a thin tan head that had OK retention and light lacing. There were some nice roasted scents in the nose, along with a nice hop tang. On the tongue the crisp hops pop across the tongue first, with the roast playing a nice supporting role.

The body was crisp and clean. Drinkability was very good, if this were local for me it would be in my regular rotation. Worth seeking out.

Pint at "b2" Taphouse in Salem. $4.00 Dark brown beer..ruby hints around the edge,small tan head..it goes fast Dark chocolate,semi-bitter coffee aromas,small hint of floral hop very small. Nice. .Taste similar to the aroma but with milky aspects and no hop. Very smooth stuff. Good smooth mouth feel..goes down a treat. Very nice drinkable porter.

From a growler into standard pint.

Look is a dark blackish brown that is barely visible through the other side, thin white head

smell: cocoa, malt, slight hops.

Taste a bit of chocolate, coffee, very little hop presence and low ibus all together but this is what it is supposed to be. Its not a 'brown ale' its a 'black' if there really was a category. very tasty, very well rounded

mouthfeel, very good carbonation, slight aftertaste of coffee that lingers

Very good beer overall, this is definatly trying to be a style changer. no its not a cda, stout, porter, or even a brown, it is what it is, and its good.

This is an American Brown ale? Anyway, on tap at the Belmont Station fringe festival the other day.

The beer pours a blackish brown color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is pretty attractive (for a stout... not sure about a brown ale), showcasing coffee, licorise and burnt toast. The beer has a very prominent roasty malt aroma, but smells as if it will be pretty dry on the palate. In fact the beer is indeed pretty dry, despite the roasty component. Otherwise, the licorise and coffee seem to take top billing in the flavor profile, with the very modest sweetness turning quite dry, even leading to a hint of light sour. Mouthfeel is soft and creamy, with the beer showing a long, dry, slightly bitter finish. Alcohol doesn't seem very high in this one (maybe in the 6% range?), and drinkability isn't bad at all.

This came across to me as combination oatmeal, irish, milk stout (though I wouldn't disagree with Terry's suggestion that it's very reminescent of a schwarzbier as well), and one that I found to be uncomplicated and easy drinking. The (presumed) low alcohol is a bonus.

Poured a deep cola brown/black into a tulip with a finger of light khaki head. Aroma dominated by roasty coffee, cocoa, and hints of smoke.

Moderate carbonation and a creamy, somewhat light mouthfeel. Mild coffee up front followed by unexpected sweet notes of cocoa and caramel. Lingering finish returns to the bitter/smoke character.

Quite a bit of flavor for a relatively low gravity schwarzbier. Good balance of roast/smoke and malty sweetness.

Had this on draught at a local tap house. I love this beer!

A - It's dark brown /black... It's what I would expect, so I can't really go crazy because a stout is black...

S - great coffee and chocolate aroma. No caramel or fruit

T - quite perfect, I have to say the best American Stout I have ever had; although, it is a style that is not very popular, but still.

M - I thought, and this could be from the tap house, but it was over carbonated and, of course, served too cold. In South Eastern Washington everyone expects beer to be 35 degrees F...

O - I keep coming back for this beer. It is so well made and balanced. I wish I had better access to Boneyard...
