Thanks to Jay for sending this my way. Poured from a 32oz growler.

Visually, this beer looks like any other stout.

The aroma is about average, some roast, some chocolate, a bit of booze.

Taste isn't far off from the nose. Slightly bitter cocoa powder is the predominant flavor. A little roast, a very tiny amount of oakiness, and not much else. The ABV is well hidden.

Mouthfeel is solid. A bit of cocoa dustiness gives this beer a unique aspect.

Overall, a good beer. However, it is not a top-tier stout. There are too many regularly available stouts in my area that I would choose over this any day of the week for me to want to trade for this again.

Appearance- Was received with about a finger's worth of head. The head is a very dark beige with hint of ochre. It has pretty much no retention and no real lacing. The body is an opaque dark chocolate black. You can tell from the appearance alone that is not a beer to be trifled with.

Nose- A little subtle for an Imperial stout but still nice and complex. Espresso with more generic, coffee, roasted malt notes. Some chocolate in the background. After some swirling, I get some notes of toast and burnt caramel. Surprisingly, no alcohol. A little bit of cream as well.

Taste- Reflective of the nose- heavy on the espresso with other roasted notes. Noticeable booze and evident but seemingly contained oak. Bitter, dark chocolate notes as well. Alcohol is pretty minimal and so is the oak. This is a good thing. While this is well balanced and well rounded, I would like a little more complexity even at the cost of minor messiness. Pretty much average in regard to the Imperials I've had. This still makes it a solid beer. You have to give them props for hiding 14% so well. Some notes of oatmeal and a bit of smoke. Almost a rusted quality that actually works.

Mouthfeel- Medium to heavy bodied. Perhaps a little too much carbonation. A little gritty, a little chewy.

Drinakbility- Perhaps it's a good thing that is a little average for an Imperial. A delicious and fairly cheap 14% beer could be dangerous. 3.75 is not a bad price at all for a 250 mL pour.

Overall- Above average to solid beer. Definitely worth a try for stout lovers but if you've had the premium ones, you probably won't be impressed.
