On tap at Belmont Station the other day. I assume this was left over from puckerfest. The beer was listed as a dark ale, but I tend to agree with the bartender at Belmont Station, the beer seemed to have more in common with an oud brown ale (given the amount of sour in this beer).
The beer pours a fairly dark brown color with red highlights. Head retention is minimal, and the beer has light lacing (the beer seemed to be well carbonated). The nose is impressive, as I pick up dark chocolate, light vanilla, red wine and some light vinegar. On the palate, the sour component really dominates, with no more than a hint of the chocolate and vanilla. The flavor profile seems a bit lacking on the mid palate, and the finish was dry, sour and fairly short. Alcohol was well integrated into the flavor profile; the beer wasn't hot or heavy on the palate, but the sour component just didn't seem to mesh well in this one. I pretty much gave up on the beer after just a few sips (had to buy a small glass, unfortunately, as sample size glasses weren't available for this beer), and tried to see if I could give it away to someone else sitting at the bar. To no great surprise, there were no takers.
At least for now, I'd have to say the sour style really isn't in boneyard's wheel house. While this wasn't awful, qualitatively, it was far below what I've normally come to expect from Boneyard.
