Once upon a time in the land of Bavaria, a darkness fell upon the beer in the town of Munich. But have no fear – this darkness was born of a toasted malt that produces a bready chocolate flavor. This full-bodied brew is now known as a Munich Dunkel. Our dunkel is made with just enough hoppy bitterness to scare away any overt sweetness. Then it is carefully lagered to produce a cleaness that no one will shudder at.

Poured brown amber and capped with off white head and displayed active carbonation.
Aroma mild for me but I did get the bready malts and some sweetness. Caramel maybe?
The taste followed, pleasant flavor and seemed to fall within style specs; bread and dark fruit reigned in the flavor category, with a little hops sharpness at the swallow. At least I am guessing that is where the little bite came from. It’s really very mild and as it warmed the bite went away, so now I am wondering if I ever really tasted it. (No, I did, it’s just not there any more)
The feel was probably better than I ranked it but I noticed it which is unusual, meaning something stuck out. Too chewy?
I enjoyed it, and would gladly drink it again if I get the chance. They don’t distribute to Michigan though, so who knows. Tasty beer!

12oz can with no freshness dating. Opened 9-10-20.
1/4" off white head with very short retention, sizzles away to nothing quickly. No lacing.
Amber/brown almost iced tea color. Clarity looks good.
Mild roasted malt, cocoa / chocolate...cola.
Dark bread, light brown sugar/molasses. Sweet malt.
Medium body, low-medium carbonation. Malty and slightly sweet finish.
Okay.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium to dark bronze amber with a half finger light khaki head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of sweet biscuit and caramel malt, brown bread, mild dark dried stone fruit. Flavor is biscuit and bready malt with a hint of caramel, brown and dark rye bread, hints of dates, figs and dark fruit. Starts semi-sweet, finishes dry and malty with slight noble hops. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A nice malty dunkel lager with some understated, but good fruit and bread flavors. Finish is a little stark with a hint of tartness, but it tastes like rye, which fits well with the rest of the malt bill. A satisfactory domestic dunkel.

This beer was recommended by the manager of Southern Hospitality while my buddy and I were on a baseball trip in Denver this year (just now getting around the putting in my review...I know...). This was on tap into a pint glass and really hit the spot with the barbecue that I was indulging in. This beer is a clear, dark amber in color with a thin white head that dissipates fairly slowly to a thin lacing. The carbonation is low in concentration and readily visible. 4/5 The aroma is very enticing with notes of caramel, brown sugar, buttered & toasted wheat bread, and herbal hops. The sweet aromas are the strongest with the toast playing the role of "painter's canvas" to work off of. 3.75/5 The flavor starts off with a nice bit of light caramel and quickly moves to toasted & buttered wheat bread which really comes out strongly. Surprisingly, a bit of dark fruitiness comes out right behind the bread with dates and raisins making an appearance. The herbal hops come in at the very end, simply to even things out a bit. There is no noticeable bitterness to this beer. 4/5 This beer comes across as medium bodied, although it is on the lighter end of medium. Wet & coating, but not viscous. The carbonation comes across as a light tickle with no burn and there is no dryness to the mouthfeel. 4/5 This is a very good and enjoyable dunkel lager that features a hint of fruitiness that I don't normally get with this style. Easily a sessionable beer that drinks easy while providing a layered experience. It is a bit sweeter and less bready than I am used to with dunkels, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. 4/5
