Pours a very hazy orange with very little foam. Aroma of molasses. Taste of molasses as well as honey, sweet without being cloying. Mouthfeel a bit slick- honey more prominent in mouthfeel than taste. Alcohol burn on the finish. Have seen others compare it to a mead- would enjoy doing a side by side with this and a good mead.

Attractive big foam on the pale amber brew poured into a heavy-based tall glass. Aromatics are crazy.

This is really sweet, like powdered sugar on a vanilla malt cake, but the oak is astoundingly strong. That aromatic, woody, vanilla is so intense it is fascinating. I think the nose is one of the more remarkable experiences I've had with a beer. Drinkability is a little wobbly, but it's worth a try just to see what fresh, exuberant oak taste like.

This is supposed to be the "Imperial" version of Grimm's Snow Drop Köttbusser which is in the Altbier category. And they say this uses Altbier yeast, so isn't it an Altbier? But it's strong and strange, so who cares.

Pours a deep darkish yellow with an off white head. Aroma is has the wheat malt, honey, and molasses giving off a ton of sweetness, then amped up even more with the sugars derived from the oats. Lots of alcohol present too. Flavor is ridiculously sweet, tasted like alcoholic butterscotch. Not diacytal related butterscotch, just the blending of all the ingrediants together. Medium bodied. Overall, worst beer I have tried from Grimm. I could not come close to finishing it.

Bottle shared by Sammy at my 22nd birthday. 22oz bottle. Bottle number was left blank on the label. Into a tulip. An "Imperial Kottbusser Ale."

Poured an unfiltered straw yellow, minimal head leaving a thin film, some bubbles and a collar. Nose has some honey, grains, light herbal qualities and some melon/honeydew notes. Taste has a bit more honey, breadiness, light grain notes and a general sweetness about it. Melon notes are somewhat hidden. Minimal alcohol in the mouthfeel was surprising, sweet feel but not cloying. Medium full body, low-ish carbonation. Nothing special, but the sweet honey and melon notes make this somewhat interesting.

Sammy's bottle

Hazy deep golden colour, collar of white head with no lace. Smell is yeasty, banana notes, honey is most certainly present, in a way this smells like a wheat beer but quite mellow in most regards. Taste is slightly yeasty, honey, some medicinal flavours, clove, some spicy points, but lots of honey. Medium active carbonation, medium body and a fairly good feel overall. This wasn't bad but it didn't resonate very well with me I don't think fairly drinkable but the sample was enough though.

A light brown body, lacey. Aggressive carbonation. Honey and mollasses. Not getting interesting flavours here, very little wheat. Not great, still thanks Jason B for sending a fresh bottle of something different to try.Simple but does not work for me.

I shared this one at a recent tasting at Schmittymack’s house. Poured a clear gold with a lingering ring of white foasm. Aromas of straw, citrus, yeast and light earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of straw, citrus, yeast and light earthiness with a smooth lingering citrus finish.

An Imperial Kottbusser. Pilsner, wheat, oats, honey and molasses. Pours a semi-hazy golden color, actually very close to what this is based off of, Snow Drop. A good off white head with good head retention and lacing. Some legs when swirled in the glass.

The nose is subtle but has lot going on in there. Some grainy notes but a stronger presence from the honey more than anything else. Almost like a braggot. There is just a hint of wood and vanilla. Some hints of brett but not over the top.

The taste is bit more complex vs the nose. The grainy flavors come out more but the honey is still a noticeable component. The wheat is subtle but is noticeable in the finish. Very clean for the alcohol but some notes are detectable. Some minor yeasty notes.

So I get that this is a dead style and its hard to judge based off of what it is. But overall for the alcohol it is very easy to drink. The oats gives it a nice finish. The carbonation is light but ok for a German style. Overall I thought it was pretty good. Should age well.

22oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy yellow gold with a small white head that quickly diminishes to a thin collar.

The aroma is sweet bready cereal malts and clover honey with a little yeasty banana.

The flavor is sweet honey malts with some off tasting bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is syrupy with low carbonation.

Overall, I didn't really care for this. It was overly sweet and the off tasting bitter notes clashed.
