22 oz bomber mailed up from FL. No date on bottle but appears to be a good deal of age on this beer, malt has strong cardboard aspect and amost sherry-like notes along with toffee-like caramel malt. Hops are mildly pine and floral, but mostly flat with hints of sulfur, skunk and onion. Not a good representaion of American IPA - but surely just a bad bottle. Illustrative of importance of dating bottles, and encouraging retailers to appropriately store and shelve light- and age-sensitive beers. Will have to try this at the brewery sometime.

On tap at The Flying Iguana in Atlantic Beach, FL.

Pours a clear amber, with a half inch head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells like pine, onion, and caramel.

This is made with Summit hops- if I had known this, I would not have ordered it. The oniony aspects of this are pretty apparent. There's an oniony astringent finish, with pine and caramel up front. Despite the only 6.4% ABV, this feels pretty boozy. It just doesn't feel well crafted at all. Change the hop bill, Summit hops are garbage.

This is medium bodied, with a slightly oily mouthfeel and a moderate level of carbonation.

Not very good at all.

Poured on draft into a cold pint glass.

A: Pours a golden hue with a touch of orange. Head is off-white and somewhat creamy.

S: Medium hop notes, mostly fruit with some pine. Nice hop presence.

T: Almost no hop bitterness, Hop presence is swallowed up by an almost sweet maltiness. More sips intensifies the sweetness. Bitter notes linger minimally on the palate.

M: A watery, medium body with low carbonation presence.

O: A decent IPA for crushing on a hot day; it's quite thirst-quenching. For those looking for a hop bomb, this isn't it. But I would definitely drink some in the hit Florida sun.

Funky, worn t shirt taste. Tastes very much like an English IPA that has been aged for a while. Not a lot of hops are shown in the taste. More of a sweet caramel, and strange earthyness.

Yet another local option from the Magic Mushroom at Jacksonville Beach. I have been to Engine 15 before but did not try this one.

It was served in a standard pint; the beer is a chill hazed dark gold with an off-white head. Nice lacing.

It has a big pine in the nose. There is some Caramel apple in there as well.

It is pleasantly bitter, with pine sap and citrus. A little bit of sweet malts for balance.

The mouth is oily yet the active carbonation keeps things from being to coating.

All-in-all, a very enjoyable IPA. I will try one at the source next time I go to Engine 15.
