Notes/Commercial Description:
Our "Calico Brown" is a malty brown ale with dark amber hues. There's a velvety smooth body with a light bitter finish from our friend the Chinook hop. We've struck a balance to the bitterness with a hint of spiciness while using Tettang hops to give this ale a pleasurable aroma. We live in Las Vegas and enjoy the surrounding area of Red Rock Canyon. Do yourself a favor: Get back to nature. Get a beer. Enjoy it!

Poured into a Stone Brewing flute glass. Pours a reddish chestnut brown with a thin light tan head that dissipates to a ring around the glass. Aroma of sweet toasted malt, nutty. Flavor follows aroma, with nicely integrated mellow lightly sweet toasted malt and nuts, a hint of chocolate. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A nicely balanced mellow brown ale with somewhat subdued, but pleasant flavors. Hits all the right notes for a brown ale, but could use a bit more flavor intensity.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a beautify dark mahogany brown, with a finger of off-white head that quickly dissolved into a thin halo of foam that gripped the sides of the glass and formed wispy clouds of foam that settled atop the beer, but didn’t completely cover it.

Aroma: Nice and malty with strong notes of cereal, caramel, brown sugar and floral notes of honey and clover.

Taste: Like the aroma, nice and malty up front, followed by some sweetness and finished by some slight hops bitterness. I get lots of cereal, brown sugar and some hits of black pepper.

Mouthfeel: Medium with just a hint of chewiness. There’s a bit of carbonation, but not much. At an ABV of only 5.6%, there is no presence of alcohol on the palate.

Overall: This is a damn tasty brown ale!! I’ve never heard of this brewery, but thanks to this brown ale, it is now on my radar. I’ll certainly be getting this beer again, and will be on the lookout for other offerings from this brewery! Further, the next time I’m in Las Vegas I’ll have to visit the brewery!

Medium brown color with reddish hues. Thin tan head with short retention.

Earthy, light brown sugar, caraway, celery seed, toasted brown bread and a sweet fruitiness in the nose.

Thin feel on the palate with burnt toast and a strong metallic note. (Had another person taste the beer without comment and got a confirmation to my perception.) Palate was noticeably lacking otherwise.

Medium-bodied with a watery finish and a flat feel to the palate despite a moderate level of carbonation.

Served from bomber into a pint glass. Looking at other tasting notes, have to believe that I got a bad bottle. Will have to re-visit this beer in the future.

Poured from bomber into a pint glass

Appearance- The beer pours a copper-brown color with a big off white head. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a light level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell- The aroma is a mix of roasted malt with some aromas of nut, dark fruit, and coffee. Along with these more roasted aromas are some smells of caramel and toffee as well as a little bit of an earthy hop smell.

Taste-The taste begins with a sweet caramel and lightly fruity flavor with a nice roasted malt backbone. Coffee and some nutty flavors are present upfront and continue on till the taste ends. Along with these flavors comes some lighter hop flavors of an earthy nature more toward the middle to the end of the taste. The coffee flavor intensifies a bit more toward the end of the taste, leaving one with a moderately sweet but nicely roasted flavor on the tongue.

Mouthfeel –The body of the brew is on the slightly thicker and creamier for the only 5.6 % abv of the brew with a carbonation level that is on the more average to slightly below average side. Both are great for the style and the roasted flavors of the brew, giving it a nice mouth coating feel.

Overall – A very tasty brown ale that is quite smooth and tasty with a good balanced flavor profile.

On tap at Lucky Baldwins in Pasadena, CA.

Pours a clear copper with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt and roasted nut aromas. Taste is much the same with nutty flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with some solid aromas and flavors.

las vegas is pretty much a beer wasteland in a lot of ways, but this brewery puts a dent in that statement. this is a solid brown ale, and easily the finest beer I dark during my brief stay at the hard rock hotel. this was purchased from the bottle shop across the street for less than 5 bucks. it has a nice reddish brown color with a creamy off white head. the nose is medium roasted barley, sweet caramel malts, and a touch of vanilla and honey, not insanely complex, but very well balanced. the flavor is great, none of that stale English malt flavor that the lesser versions of the style often have. also not as bitter as some American browns, more sweet to be sure. I love the grain flavors in this, and the vanilla in the finish. mellow feel, soft in texture and carbonated just enough. its definitely hard to say for sure how good this beer really is, because after an afternoon of drinking coors lights, any craft beer is going to be incredible, but this one in particular just struck me right. quality brown ale right here folks.
