2014 Vintage All the winter warmer elements with the addition of apple. Perhaps a bit cloying.

On tap.
Lighter colored than expected for a "winter" beer. Large white head.

good BB aging effects with a little wood and more obvious brandy mixing with, but not dominating, the underlying winter warmer.

Feel: over carbonated and too prickly.

2014 Foraged Persimmon Ale

Appearance: Pours a hazy persimmon pudding color with a modest head that fades to a ringlet; a few dots of lacing hang around

Smell: Persimmon pudding soaked in Brandy; caramel, cinnamon and vanilla hints

Taste: Cinnamon and vanilla spiced persimmon pudding, up front, with Brandy flavors building through the middle; boozy warmth through the finish with subtle cinnamon heat in the finish

Mouthfeel: Full bodied, with moderate carbonation; warmth in the gullet

Overall: Brandy barrel with persimmons is a great combination and makes for an excellent variant on the base beer

Poured into a Due South Brewing Co. snifter. Label says 2014.

A- Pours a light brown color with a 1/4 inch light tan head that retains decently before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and minimal surface foam. Not-so-resilient lacing leaves tiny specs behind.

S- Good brandy character with some tinges of booze. Notes of caramel, rum raisin and vanilla.

T- Flavor follows suit with optimal sweetness amplifying the aforementioned raisin and vanilla notes. Enough toasty malt there to balance. Goes down so smooth for the ABV. Some woody notes remind me of port.

M- Could stand to be a bit creamier but it does just fine where it is. Medium-low carbonation and a body leaning toward the fuller side.

O- Though the feel is a bit lacking, the rest of the beer is great.

A: Pours a crystal clear reddish copper in color with heavy amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and faint amber highlights. The beer has a half finger tall foamy tan head that slowly reduces to a mottled thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of brandy sweetness, brown sugar, spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and vanilla), along with lighter aromas of caramel and fruity/persimmon notes.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of caramel malts with a strong flavor of brandy - there are moderate notes of brown sugar and oak as well. That is followed by a moderate flavor of winter spices - cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and vanilla. Moderate flavors of persimmon sweetness as well. Light amounts of alcohol presence in the finish from the brandy.

M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Super smooth with a moderate amount of alcohol warming.

O: Really delicious - wonderful brandy flavors and aromas complement the persimmon and winter spices. Alcohol is relatively well hidden as there is no burn and this one is a joy to drink. Definitely a good one to try.
