Great atmosphere with a traditional pub feel then spiced up with hanging red roses. The offer several nice beers on tap and many in the bottle. The service was good even when they were busy. And they can pourd and present a beer as well as anyone. But this place seems to be focused more and more on beer tourists. The prices have gone up and many seem unreasonable to me. I think this one is falling out of our rotation. (422 characters)

I really enjoyed having a few beers here. Service was prompt & friendly, beer list was outstanding. I like the diversity of beer more than most Brugge beer bars.

A bit more expensive, but more to my liking. (208 characters)

Very laid back, was pretty empty when we were there. Very European cafe feel. Quaint and cosy. Off the main Bruges traffic area. Our server was the owner and was very knowledgable. (180 characters)

I liked this place quite a bit. I got there when they were supposedly open, according to the sign on the door, but no one was there except the cleaning crew. Ooookay. So I trundled around town for about an hour and came back to see that there was in fact now someone behind the bar, and a few patrons enjoying their drinks. The place is rather small, with a bar that seats maybe 10 people, and a few tables. Dozens of "roses" hang from the ceiling. Seeing how it was not very busy, the service was fine, and the guy who waited on us knew a lot about beer worldwide, and even recognized a few names I dropped when I said I was from the Philly area.

Beer selection was very nice. Unlike some of the other bars I've been to over here, they actually HAD the beers that were listed on their menu. So that was a plus. Opted for a sampler flight of 4 of the 5 the beers on tap and a somewhat expensive, yet satisfying bottle of FF. They do actually have some snack-type food here, meat and cheese plates, and the like, so it's a good place for a satisfying beer session. Probably my favorite place in Bruges. (1,102 characters)

Wonderful little cafe in Bruges.

Just a little bit off the beaten path, is this cozy and pretty little cafe. I visited in late October, so unfortunately we didn't get to sit outside on the nice little terrace out back.

Service was good on both of my visits, pleasant, prompt and knowledgeable..

Selection is quite good, as are most places in Bruges. Very long detailed bottle list, heavy on Trappist beers, and about 6 taps, luckily for me, Fou Foune was on draft at the time, so that was what I ordered both times.

We also had a small bite to eat here, (menu is limited) but the soup, bread, sausages, and cheese were all quite tasty.

Prices were about the same as anywhere else in Bruges. (697 characters)

It has been several years since we visited Cafe Rose Red, and I remember it often to this day. After reading a post from Travel and Leisure today about Westvelteren XII, I remembered that I never posted my review of the first place I ever tasted "the best beer in the world."

My husband and I stumbled into the cafe for a quick rest and a beer before continuing on our brief tour of Brugge and then ended up staying and trying many beers with the owner, Kris. He was so passionate and knowledgable about local trappist beers, and then some, that we skipped a touristy tour of a local brewery and sat with him and visited during a quiet period in the cafe.

He brought out many tasty things for us to try building up to the Westveletern XII. We tried a Oude Geuze Boom for the first time and a couple of other trappist selections. Kris made sure everything was served properly and knew about the brewery and brewing process for everything he served us. We learned a ton and really enjoyed meeting him. He served the Westv X and then the XII. The X was amazing. The XII lives up to its reputation. It was the closest thing to what I imagine laudinum might taste like. Flowery, fragrant, dark and mysterious, it was better than many fine wines I have tried. I was immediately addicted and have been searching for a suitable replacement ever since.

Since it has been several years since we were there, it is time to return. The hotel looked lovely...maybe for our 12th anniversary this year! (1,492 characters)
