An American Double India Pale Ale that packs a punch when it comes to hops. The aroma and flavors will give you citrus and pine with a slight malt sweetness that finishes dry.

A - Pours a murky brownish orange with a two-finger creamy off-white head. Light amount of sticky lacing.

S - Aromas of tropical fruits and faint piney hops.

T - Taste is a blend of sweet caramel malts and piney resinous hops. The hops and malts are balanced out with a light amount of tropical fruits. The finish is bitter piney hops.

M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Dry finish.

O - A well balanced DIPA. Not the best I've ever had, but not the worst. Probably wouldn't seek out again.

Pours a pale bronze colour, quite a reddish tinge. Head is white, foamy, some lacing left behind. Decent; head could be more vibrant.

Smells piney and citric, with a touch of resin. Mild peppery spice at the back, maybe a hint of saffron. Intriguing sweet piquancy to the hops.

Taste is somewhat roasty, with plenty of resinous hop oils at the back. Touch of honey midway with some treacle and cinnamon leading into that bitter finish. Could use some more freshening up of the hops; it just feels a bit dour at the back, and too sweet at the front by contrast.

Smooth body, fairly big pull from the hops. Decent body upfront but finishes very dry.

Decent overall, drinkable enough. Could just be a bit brighter.

Poured into an IPA glass. The liquid is golden amber, with a moderate amount of bubbles lazily rising up. The pour kicks up a huge off-white head that takes several minutes to die down enough to take a sip and leaves blankets of lace the whole way down.

Aroma is dank resin, pine, and hints of onions with a solid caramel malt base.

Taste starts out with some resin and maybe some basil, then some caramel malt kicks in mid-palate along with some astringent, slightly soapy grapefruit pith. Caramel and resin dominate the finish, and a bit of orange comes in on the aftertaste. This is a little too caramelly for my taste - it hits the style notes, but I can't help wishing there was a bit more citrus in there, or if the dankness of the nose made its way through to the palate.

Body is relatively thick and nicely creamy, with a lot of carbonation to cut through it.

Overall, nice DIPA and remarkably well-balanced, but I probably won't seek it out again.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/13/2014. Pours crystal clear deep orange amber color with a 2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big peach, pineapple, mango, tangerine, grapefruit, orange peel, lemon zest, floral, grass, pine, caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and nearly balanced malt sweetness; with great strength. Taste of big peach, pineapple, mango, tangerine, grapefruit, orange peel, lemon zest, pine, floral, grass, caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of peach, mango, tangerine, pineapple, grapefruit, orange peel, pine, floral, grass, caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and robustness of juicy citrus/tropical hops and fairly balanced malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, fairly creamy, and moderately crisp/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn good DIPA. All around nice complexity, balance, and robustness of juicy citrus/tropical hops and caramel/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
