Bottled on 3/26/13
Poured into the Dogfish Head/Sierra Nevada IPA Glass.

Appearance: Pours a transparent light orange with yellow highlights. The beer sports an off white, two finger head that sticks around for a while and leaves some nice lacing behind as it recedes.

Aroma: Gotta love those citra hops; huge, vibrant aromas of kiwis, grapefruit, peach, lime juice, a hint green onions and some nice catty simcoe hop-isms. Underlying sweet, bready malts provide some balance to this hugely tropical nose.

Taste: Very tropical hops right away; notes of grapefruit, a little bit of passion fruit and light impressions of kiwi, before a very clean and brisk breadiness dries out the palate. The beer finishes off dry with hints of tropical fruit intermingled with light bread. There is a very assertive, lingering bitterness. I wish the hops were a bit more pungent.

Mouthfeel: A tad thin bodied for its style, I wish it was a little more full bodied. I feel that carbonation is a tad too soft.

Overall: This was a difficult beer for me to review because I could tell if I was drinking a slightly hoppy Pale Ale or a watered down IPA. It's marketed as a pale ale, yet it is 7% ABV, which by definition would make it an IPA. I feel like the aroma on the beer is amazing, but the actual flavor of the hops don't come through enough. Its a decent take on a glorified Zombie Dust clone, but overall it just doesn't make the cut.

What? Another citra beer? Thank you!
Looking at past reviews makes me think they have changed the beer a bit. This one is listed at 7%abv.

Great hop character here and very well balanced. Actually drinks like a sub 6% pale and pushes the limit of how much hops that malt can handle without crossing the line. Extra pale for sure!

Pour in to a tulip resulted in a 1 finger, mildly rocky, white head. Slightly hazy, orange colored body.

Aroma was pleasant. Some good orange/tangering aromas with some light tropical notes. A bit bready and malty along with some light sweetness and caramel. Didn't smell overly "bright".

Flavor was good for a APA. Nice amounts of tropical and tangerine flavors up front that led to some biscuity and caramel notes. Nice malty background backs up the mellow bitterness. Bitterness lingers a tad. A bit grassy. Definitely tropical/tangerine/orange flavors that linger around a little. Showcases the Citra nicely.

Medium/light body with medium carb. Crisp and dry finish lets the hops shine.

Good beer overall, especially for being single hopped. Malt flavors play nicely with the Citra hop. Good balance.

A - Small near white head, leaves fast to ring. Spotty lace. Fairly clear honey orange.

S - All citrus baby. Mostly grapefruit and orange peel. Malt is present but does take a back seat.

T - Nice sweet malt core, although not as heavy as I had hoped. The hops rush in and obliterate it really fast too.

M - Medium body, good carb, balance a little heavy on the citrus tasting hop.

D - Easy enough to drink. Would try again.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into an Allagash cervoise glass. Stamped KDBCHZA[upside down V, not A]J12.

A: Clear copper, light head, good lacing.

S: Dull hops...not what I was expecting from one of my favorite varieties. Still, a touch of pleasant fruit.

T: Above average! A decent pale ale with one helluva hop. I love Citra, ergo, I enjoy this beer. Fruity-round maintaste with a dry, nigh herbal finish. Lightly astringent. Though crisp, the Citra bursts don't linger long on the tongue.

M: Crisp, full, and hoppy.

O: I like it. Recommended. Would drink again. Excellent pale ale!

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a large tulip.

A: Pours a nice golden-orange with a decent 1-1.5 finger head. Decent amounts of retention and tons of lacing.

S: Nothing but beautiful citra hops. Just tons of tropical citrus.

T: Some sweet malts then pine, tropical citrus with a bit of pine/resin. Finish's with a small amount of bitterness.

M: Medium body and carbonation.

O: Overall, this is delicious. This is my third bottle and there is no variation. Excellent use of Citra hops and extremely quaffable.

Pours a clear golden orange color with a solid slowly receding soapy white head that settles to a medium white cap with solid sticky lacing.

Aromas begin with minimal citrus and light toasted bready maltiness. Some minimal tropical fruit hop notes as well.

The tastes begin with a solid malty presence of light caramel that was not so apparent in the aroma. Pine and grapefruit bitter flavors and big breadiness back with the ever-present generic citrus hop flavor.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Finish is increasingly bitter and resiny but not overly so but more than expected.

Overall this is a decent APA but a bit too bitter, needed more hop flavor and aroma. The Citra hops are overshadowed a little by the solid malt backbone which could have been toned down a tad as well. This would have been better served as a 5-5.5% beer with much more late hop additions. Despite it's high Alpha acid content, Citra should be used as an aroma hop and not so much as a bittering as it comes across a bit too resiny and bitter making this taste much more like an IPA than an APA.

22oz bottle split two ways. The first whiff off the bottle was nice, super hops. The appearance was orange, soapy head, laces. Aroma in the glass was more of that citra hoppiness, I think I like that super fruity aroma. Flavor was odd, very bitter but then backed by this strange malt that threw the whole thing off, peanuts.

Pours a minimally hazed light orange with edges of gold and a thin off-white foam. Tropical fruity hops abound in the nose with mango and a suggestion of pineapple. Up front bitterness lingers into the dry finish. Clean and firm maltiness. Grassy/vegetal dry hop presence along with a more pleasant guava fruitiness. Overall there's a lot of citra hop character coming through in this beer, as promised, though a more subtle display of strength and a softer dry hop character might induce me to order another pint.

A - Pours a hazy golden-orange color with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing.

S - Aroma is full of citrus and tropical hops with just a bit of pine hop and some sweet caramel and biscuit malts.

T - Starts off with a mix of grapefruit, tropical, and citrus hops with some bitterness and sweet caramel malts. Through the middle, some pine and floral hops come through with some more bitterness and some biscuit malt. The finish is a mix of sweet bready malts with grapefruit, pine, and floral hops and bitterness.

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry and bitter finish.

D - Very drinkable. Nice hoppy pale ale with some good hop flavor from the Citra and a good hop and malt balance.
